Ryan- make sure your main sheet cam and block assembly (where it attaches to the traveler) rotates easily. As long as the depth allows, rudders down for maneuvering is a good thing. I also put down about a foot of the dagger board on my to serve as a skeg. Seems to track well in that configuraton, although slower because it's blue.

Other suggestions:

1) Empty and flush out porta-pottie
2) If you have 120 VAC available, run a small fan to circulate air in the cabin
3) Open the various storage holds
4) Install some moisture reducers (e.g., DampRid)
5) Remove any food supplies

I have noticed that my brackets have flared out as well. I trued them up somewhat with a C-clamp (with the rudders off). Having the pivot bolt tight seems critical.

Don't forget to have an adjustable wench on hand also.
