Re: Any Good Or Bad Year ?

Simon, congrats on getting 26X, a good solution for shore power is to install a "camping" mains unit from towsure or any other camping equipment supplier, this can be either installed into the boat or used as and when at a marina or other standard power connection. http://www.towsure.com/p...

Re: Secondhand prices in the UK

Gary, sold my 99Mac26X in Spring this year for around £13K, major extras were inflatable dinghy with electric outboard, newish mounted VHF, usual Lazy jacks, roller reefed jib and all the other things you need to make the boat work. Sold it via http://www.apolloduck.com where there are currently 2*2...

Re: Follow jessica around the world

I thought International Col Regs had a catch all that says in effect, the stand on vessel should take appropriate action to avoid collision, if the give way vessel has shown no intention of giving way! Not being mown down is far preferable, then saying you had the right of way to Davey Jones in his ...

Re: Kicker Motor

I was recently out on a 26X for the day on a reservoir/lake which only allowed electric OB's and the boat I was on used a Minitonka OB that was similar to the minitonka I also used on my inflatable dinghy. Although in reasonable conditions with no high winds it was OK to allow picking up moorings et...

Re: Bad Luck

BJ, wow! that sounded rough!! Regarding the towing points, I needed a tow this season due to engine problems, a nice powerboat gave us a tow from Hurst Narrows to Yarmouth (IoW) Harbour entrance. We rigged tow lines from both aft cleats around the outside to the bow cleats and then over the anchor r...

Re: Bottoming out, damage question

I ran my X aground on Loch Ree in Ireland, (sand, shingle, stone and rocks bottom) it made a loud scraping sound and stopped the boat (we were sailing at the time). Eventually we were able to motor off and get alongside a pontoon where we inspected the bilges thoroughly for ingress of water but ther...

Re: Guessing Centreboard Depth

Let CB line out so board is fully down and clamp in cleat, use permanent marker to "paint" a 1-2inch RED mark around the line before the jamming cleat. Pull CB up so the board is fully home jam in cleat, mark the line with a BLACK line as per above. Then either measure or by eye, mark mid-...

Re: rough seas

Matt, a couple of other suggestions that also could have been useful, if you are going to do a 90nm trip along North Sea coast it would be advisable to call in a trip plan to the MCA when you set off, so at least they are aware you are out there and will worry if you don't call in a safe arrival aft...

110% Genoa

You could contact Doyle Sails at Shamrock Quay, Southampton, they are the UK subsidiary of Doyle USA, who build all of Rogers sails, so they can easily ship one locally in UK. Alternatively try Crusader sails (again UK) who will probably provide one from stock also. Cheers Morris p.s. it could also ...

Had similar problem with my centreboard but that's a 26X99 which was part of a batch problem and fixed under warranty. The replacement was a locally modified reconditioned board, provided by the UK Mac Dealer; who cut around the hole, fixed a piece of hardwood into the void and glassed/gel coated to...

Anchor storage

I fitted an anchor holder (from West marine) on the pushpit, so the anchor hangs out front, after a while it became a pain catching mooring lines etc so I went back to storing the anchor (Fortress) in the locker along with the rode (chain and rope). Regarding weight of anchor for increased holding p...

QM 2nd choice

The QM is a great 2nd choice, loads to see and a good tour from bridge, through accomodation, to engine room and especially the underwater gallery out around the propellers.
