Where do I mount a 22lb Super Hooker on the 26M?

Post by richandlori »

No, Im not talking about a lady of the evening, but a 22lb anchor. Yes, I know, I know, a 22lb is way oversized for the Mac, but one anchor slipping incident on an overnight trip with the admiral and kids would have effectively ended my overnighters on anchor, so I went big.

My problem is I cant find a good/decent/doable place to store the beast while under way. Right now I keep it sitting in the aft bunk, but that takes up room and is a PITA to move around. I cant keep it on the anchor roller, because it would interfere with the roller furler. I think it is too heavy to mount on the bow pulpit. It wont fit in the locker. It is driving me crazy. I was thinking about fabricating a mounting bracket on the port transom indentation on the M, opposite the ladder entry. At least there it would be out of the way and ready to deploy from the cockpit.

Any recommendations or thoughts? I like the anchor, but it is becoming the millstone around my neck(pun intended).

Sure, the PM1 windline mount thing will hang it on the bow rail by the square plate nicely. I had an 18# superhooker that I stored this way but now downsized to a 13# .
I also use a black rubber tarp strap to lash it in place, to keep it from flopping and banging on the rubrail

raise the furler by a foot and gain lots of visibility and deck clearance.
.... just raise the mast hound and use one of the tensioner mods at the drum-to-chainplate link.

I only use mine on overnighters, which have become rare...

But, when in use, I keep it on the bow roller. Then again, I don't have a furler...

If you can raise the furler, that sounds like the best deal...

I have tried hanging it from the Bow Pulpit by one of those Square mounts, but the shaft (not sure of the exact nautical term) hit the rub-rail.

I do like the idea of raising the RF up to gain more clearance for my anchor roller and to help increase visibility. It may also help keep the Genoa (150%) from rubbing on the bow pulpit quite as much.

Can I get some additional explanation on how others have done this? I can see shortening the attachment point on the mast, but the bottom end has me thinking.....?

Thanks

Raising the headsail foot.

Catigale,
You have an :macx: , Rich has an :macm: Both boats use the same headsails but the M has a taller mast therefore a higher attachment point for the hounds where the forestay attaches. I use two hank on headsails, a jib, or Genoa and one day I was sighting up the mast and forestay and noticed I had room to hike the foresail up higher. I simply added a 6" SS extension plate to the attachment point at the bow and raised the foot of the sail 6" to clear the pulpit a bit more. I believe there is room to raise it 8" or maybe 10", not sure about 10 though. Rich may be able to do this mod without moving the hounds at the upper reach of the mast.

I moved my hounds up (5 or 7 inches, I forget) for the Forestay Lever mod...it took about 2 minutes to measure and drill a new hole, unbolt and rebolt.....

looks like crp, but works ok...

I cut this down later, flush w/ rail... works for #13 danforth.

Looks like a mortar launcher. Jet skiers tremble in fear at your approach.

At this point, I am thinking about mounting it on the Port Transam. Does anyone see any "problems" with this approach? It would be easily launched from the cockpit in an "emergency", and it would get that blasted beast out of my way!

Thanks

thats a pretty big anchor to be walking around with.

what type is it, danforth? plow ?

2 things to try, add chain, and tie from the bow eye.

maybe you just need a different type for different bottoms
