Johnie..........
Did you really build that shiny aluminum crow/gull perch without a bearing?
I zoomed in on the 4th and 5th pic is that through bolted, without welding to the mast?/

Leon......
I look forward to some of that sailing.....the admiral tells me a training run on shasta will occur on the way down. She has cousins who own the Bass Hole bar and grill on Lake Shasta, so a mandatory wayside adventure will be required, And her oldest daughter is in Palo Alto now.... So we will need to find a parking place for the trailer for 5 days in the south bay. probably try to stay on the boat most nights.

SO I wake up this morning.....ready to go sailing with an 1/2 of hail and snow on the boat.45 kt winds last night.....and a phone messsage that perhaps today is not the day to go...... snopac down in the mountains......PSE calling me back saying that they are putting off hiring now because of decrease snopac and increased costs to buy power this summer...... arrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhh
Anyone need an experienced Electrical engineer for half a year or longer??

Those are wild surfing speeds in a 35 bene. The third sailboat I have available to me is my neighbors 35.2 Beneteau moorings. Having had that out a few times in the winter...... I can only imagine what surfing is like it that thing.....She only carries a 105-100 jib also.....

and we haven't had her above 9 knots yet..........
But just maybe I can convince the admiral to go out in that kind of wind...... She kind of draws the line at subfreezing temps and 35 kts of wind in the snow wind and rain. But ohhh is she a pretty sight on deck in foulies when I have been sitting there freezing my foulies off ....... that warm cup of java, the sandwich, The 10 minutes respite in the head.......But the bribes are getting higher. She emulates her viking ancestors pretty well.

Well, at least your water is warmer....

hail and snow in april up here.....whats up with that.....temps 20 degrees below normal....
global warming my deck.................... 8)

Darren,

Coyotte Point in San Mateo or Oyster Point (my marina) in So. San Francisco would let you park your trailer for 5 days. Not sure about the rules at Coyotte, but at Oyster, you get 3 days with a launch pass. The harbor master is cool, though, so I'm sure you can make arrangements in advance.

I have considered Shasta. Haven't been there for maybee 10 years, and that was on a motor boat. It's gorgeous, though I just can't remember if it gets any wind. Is it a good sailing lake? Don't like to take long trailering trips where I'll be running on the iron genny all the time.

Sounds like a great trip in the works. From what you describe, I think your admiral will do just fine on SF Bay. I can almost guarrantee that you won't get any snow or hail. Stay warm 8)

Cheers,
L.

Darren.

Yes it is through bolted through the mast I beleive with a 3 1/2" or 4" x 1/4" bolt through the two legs the three sections mast insert & base are through bolted with I beleive a 3/8" bolt with two large ss washers & a BWY mast bearing between them & the mast rotating cap leg allowing for a smooth rotation of the mast

as you can see in this pic I allowed for a future vhf or other antenna mount on top of the swivel or for a spike for now to keep the birdies off ! :P

Bubba and I had a great day sailing with the new KH sails but the trip home wasn't so great, Flat tire about 1 mile or less from home but by the time I figured it out the tire and wheel were toast. Spent yesterday putting new wheels and tires on the trailer saving the OME for a spare, only to find out the brake line was also torn out of the hub.. Spent today replacing that but so far unable to get brake fluid bled properly, still must have air bubble somewhere in the line. Any suggestions about bleeding surge brakes would be appreciated.

Steve - are they drum or disk?? My Kodiaks bled pretty easily when I did the swap. I ran the tube over the wheel so I could see it, and kept pushing the actutor with a screwdriver until the bubbles stopped. It did take 20 minutes of cycling or something like that - they wont bleed clear in 2 minutes due to the volume.

Mine are disc brakes. I've blocked the tires and been driving forward and back to pump the master cylinder. Where do you put the screwdriver to do the same. I think I still have an air bubble and will just have to keep pumping until it comes out.

Thanks,

Steve

PS I think Bubba was impressed with the Musclehead sail, at least I am.

Steve,

Place the screwdriver as shown in the link to pump the brake cylinder.

We just got home from Lake Coeur d'Alene Idaho, where we have been there since last Wed. My wife's daughter just got married on Sat and we stayed on our boat on the lake in Harrison Idaho. Thursday the breeze was 49+ mph with snow showers and Fri the breeze was only 35 mph with some snow showers, our Walrus 1300 furnice worked great and kept us warm. We got in 3 great days of good sailing.

On our trip we stopped by Yager Sails in Sopkane WA to have him measure our existing sails and design a new sail on his computer, ( very interesting). Don Yager is a really nice guy who is really a ultra-sound specialist for very young heart patients untill there transplants and he has a very nice sail loft too. We ( Don, my wife and I ) came up with a great looking 191 sq ft main sail for him to bid, 100% USA made with everything we want for $1730.00. We purchased 7 of his slick slides and installed them in about 5 min on our old sail to see how they work on our mast over the weekend and they work really great.

Randy

Who would think to look underneath the trailer hitch, but it makes sense.

Thanks
