Suggestions for Better Prop for the Honda BF50A

Post by EricM26 »

I have the standard prop that came with the Honda BF50A on my M26. Any recommendations for a prop improvement? Thanks, Eric

Bossa Nova came to me with an 11-3/4 x 10, 3-blade prop. I broke one of the blades in a "stupid docking trick" and had to find a replacement. The local Honda dealer didn't have the same prop, but had a 4-blade 11-3/8 x 10 Honda prop - I took it.

On trials with the new prop, Bossa Nova got up to 15 kts @ 5500 RPM (GPS speed, ballast empty, upwind, forgot to check tide).

If you really want to "find the perfect pitch", consider a ProPulse propeller (http://www.propulse.jetshop.se). These are 4-blade, adjustable-pitch propellers with replaceable composite blades. According to the manufacturers, the correct prop for a Honda 50 is their Model 6902; it is 10.4" diameter, adjustable from 11" to 17" pitch. And if I'd had one of these when I made my stupid docking mistake, I could have replaced just the broken blade.

(Defender has it for about $20 less than West Marine.)

Eric,

Do any of these solutions create an improvement over what you have :?: If yes, is it/are they significant :?:

Gerry Berg in Vancouver BC recommended and supplied 12.25 by 10. Right rotation.

I have never been able to get above 12 knots GPS but my boat is fairly well loaded.
