My original post was about the factory posting a mac vs edge page on their website. I didn't intend the thread to be another 'Mac vs edge' thread, as there is already a Mac vs Edge post on the forum.
Sure - swat the hornets nest, then complain about the stings.....

:D :D :D

I hope all these boats are successful, since more trailer sailors means more ramps and more places to be accessible. The commitment to sailing as a recreational past-time is so big that it endangers the "Roger-the-Plumbers" (like me) who also want to sail imho.

I am sure as you guys sell both ;)

I thought I was being somewhat clear in the title that the topic was - the factory page there was a mac vs edge page for your viewing pleasure.. but then again, of course, it gets everyone excited to point out how their choice/opinion was better than the current offerings (ie x vs M, late M vs early M, now we have mac vs hunter. Same deal with the Audi TT, original owners (like us; we have an 01) HATE the new 09 TT. But of course the new owners LOVE the new design. We don't hold an exclusive on this in the Mac world!

My thought in the OP was is it a good business move for the factory to compare itself to another product? I do understand how it can easily go off topic quickly.

In my unlearned opinion, not a marketing strategy I would have made.

Okay, you caught me,we do sell both..

Hey Steph, Have you sailed the Edge? How does it compare? My guess is the Mac would sail better in light to medium air, but the Edge would smoke it in heavier air. Probably more stable witht he heavier weight and wider beam. Does Hunter have a max on 75 hp like Roger with the 50, now 60 hp?

Cheers,
Leon

Hunter saw the comparison on Roger's site and was prompt with their rebuttal: http://www.huntermarine.com/Models/27Ed ... awodCDh0rA

Well it's great to know that Hunter can BS their marketing almost as good as Roger :D

Maybe they should compare the Edge to the :macx:

I have great respect for both brands... Cost comparison could be seem to be between Hunter and Macgregor... But really, who else can put numbers down and compare themselves to either? very few, I think....

I have a 25 & a 26D. We sail the 26D. I also have a H37C that I am restoring. From first hand experience - these are ALL GREAT BOATS!!!!!

you buy either the Edge or Mac26M.... you are going to get a great boat! I would be SURPRISED if both model years don't sell out... and that is a great thing!!!

What with the GREAT JOB done by the US financial guys... $50K US is almost down to $25 Canadian (or Euros).- :) So that will help insure that all the boats made will sell...!!!

Mac26s have taken a LOT of flak from some boat owners over the years... the Edge is Hunter's endorsement of Roger's approach to sailing and affordability. Good for all!!

Hi Jerry,
let me give You this information: right now 1 US $ is about 0,78€, or 1,00€ = 1,26 US$, (it came down from 1,00€ = 1,60US$ in May 2008).
In Germany the price for a blue :macm: is about 36 000,- € (It is delivered with the US-trailer but it´s not allowed to use this trailer on German roads). In addition a trailor for our roads will be about 3000,-€ , A 70 hp engine about 8000,-€. So regardless of relation of € to $, it isn´t that cheap to buy one here! :( . By the way, when the € was 1,60 US$ the German price was the same! :?

wow, im sure it was only a matter of time before they got wind and had a rebuttal!

I still think Macgregor even discussing the edge on their own website is counter productive. Plus they should have done a bit more research to try and make it unbiased (sounding at least!) or had an independent surveyor do a comparison and publish the results regardless.

As much as I like Magregor, I felt I needed to have on my wading boots with some of the BS I saw on it. At least Hunter is calling them on it.

As much as the edge is apparently a better 'value', it still strikes out in a few areas. No doubt once it gets the edges feet (or hull!) wet, they will iron out the issues and be a more formitable opponent.

Either way, both companies will sell every hull they make (mac and edge that is)

I have never been a fan of marketing when you compare yours product to another.

To me that was the silliest bit of marketing I have seen. One should never put a comparison of a competitor's product on your site and also not bag the opposition, either in writing or verbally. It will come back and bite you in the bum. ( Hunter's reply is proof ) It shows that you are either scared of them or very worried about their product outsell or outperform yours.
