In a word, no, they wont prevent rims from rusting

Thats been my experience over 30 years too. I do like to preach the virtues of hourly inspections of wheels, bearings and tow load when trailering - this has saved my hide a few times with bearings.

A longer lasting solution....Even if the wheels do have some rust, get the tyres off them and have them hot dip galvanised. Here is a shot of my VIVACITY trailer that was hot dipped right from new....and its now getting near six years old...and no sign of rust. The frame was done the same and the springs were purchased already galvanised...
As to wheel studs seizing...Give the threads a coat of industrial anti seize...it will not wash out like grease. I had some over from my mining days in the mineral sands industry. We applied it to nuts and bolts that were under running water...and the
trailer gets less exposure than that.
Not the best angle, but the condition is evident....

I replaced the factory rims with galvanized rims when the original tires wore out (more like rotted) after a couple of years. I figured I would spend the extra time I saved chasing rust on the water or doing other projects. The wheels and tire combinations weren't all that expensive and you may want to consider this option. Just a thought

I agree, if any trailer is exposed to salt water every part should be Galvinized or Aluminum. My trailer has aluminum Frame and everthing else is Galvinized except springs and Zinc coated U bolts.

I use lARGE black plastic trash bags on my wheels when storing for the winter. They blow off easy so i put a block of wood at each end of the tire to secure them. I also put trash bags on my engine, on the front hitch area, on my spare tire and one over the cockpit steering wheel. They all need to be secured with bungies as they will blow away.

Hello,
For a while I did an "outside job" for an electronics firm. I charged them a nickel a piece to paint the indicator lines on fader and rotary knobs. Saved them .40 per knob and made $100.00/hr doing it by hand with the pin striper wheel. Gravy work, made my monthly overhead in 3 days. Spent the rest of the time recording myself and other pet projects. Real nice time of my life.
