Re: Is A MacGregor the right boat for me?
Just to toss another idea out there. Have you looked at or considered the Macgregor 25? They pop up for sale here and there and are usually a bit less $$ than the 26S or D. They are light, shallow capable but the keel does not fully retract into the hull. Bit less roomy layout than the 26 but can be...

Re: Mac 25 rear bulkheads under the cockpit
I also have an extra long shaft OB. 😎 Tohatsu 6hp Sailpro. Your OB backing looks the same as mine. Not sure my plan yet, may cut the exisiting backing board out and replace with a bigger one and a few layers of glass. Or might just add a few more layers of glass over a larger area. My ladder bolts d...

Mac 25 rear bulkheads under the cockpit
Access to the stern under the cockpit is tight... I need to do some work improving the backing for the ladder and outboard mounts. Is there any reason besides asthetics that I should not cut open the bulkheads on both sides to allow better access? They are not sealed, do not appear structural, so se...

Re: Cockpit drain clogged.
Congrats on the boat! I have an 86 Mac 25 and the drain is always getting clogged. The garden hose from the exit always sorts mine out. Have been tempted to try to add a strainer or maybe even a bigger drain but have not gotten around to it yet. Mine spends most of its time at home on the trailer so...

Re: mold-mildew
I do not store my boat covered and its stored on the trailer outside. I added a solar fan to the forward hatch and its made a major difference. It dies not move much air, but the constant flow when it has sun has made a big difference for meI have it blowing out so it pulls air in through the gaps a...

Re: New outboard or not?
Mac 25 owner here. My boat came with a 2 stroke Evenrude 9.9. Did not realize it would not work well though. Turned out to be a short shaft. Plus its a bit heavier than I would prefer to lug around. After much deliberation and research I went with the 6hp sailpro extra long shaft. I WANTED a 9.9 but...

Re: Towing my just-bought Mac 25 from the yard to the house
I agree with suggestions on e trailer. I got 3 tires and wheels from them for mine, as well as a spare tire mount. I put the spare on the trailer frame towards the bow to give a little more hitch weight. If there is nothing extra on or inside, the hitch weight can be a little light and give the chan...

Re: Trailer strap?
Maybe I go overkill. I use 2 straps. One over the cockpit and another over the bow just forward of the cabin. I use 3 inch straps that are 25ft so I tie up and secure the loose end with small bungies. One thing I am thinking off adding is D ring points on the frame to hook the straps into. Just bein...

Re: Mac 25 Forestay
Interesting. I have the plate but my set up is different. The single is the forestay up to the mast and the double is on the down side. One of the double secures the forestay to the chainplate and the other is for the mast raising system. The plate actually goes into a slot on the gin pole and the l...

Re: Mast-Up storage
There are a couple at Lake Anna but its not the best sailing. Off peak days are best there but the wind is inconsistent. Lake Anna Marina and Sturgeon Creek Marina both have storage lots with clear overhead paths to their ramps. Dukes creek looks nice but there is a power line that a mast would hit ...

Re: Lower Potomac river with a Mac 25? Any thoughts or experiences to share?
Thank you for the feedback on your experience! Definately tells me I cannot leave it in the Potomac water with my current bottom paint. To share, I spoke with Olverson's and they are set up for exactly what I was looking for. Dry storage for the boat on the trailer rigged and ready. Water and electr...

Lower Potomac river with a Mac 25? Any thoughts or experiences to share?
Hello all! I shared on another thread we are heading into our 2nd season with our Mac 25. Last year, we sailed from a slip at Lake Anna, VA. Although nice being in a slip not far away, the sailing was not great. Even on windy days the wind is very inconsistant. For this year, we are looking to sail ...

Re: Mystery Modded MacGregor 25
I have a lot of pictures of my work on the boat but have not posted them online anywhere. At least not yet. Maybe I'll get around to it sometime. I have not even done a proper intro post here with pics yet either. Sailing Lake Anna was a good start for us. My wife had never been sailing. This boat w...
