Mac 25 Forestay

Post by Wyb2 »

Anyone else have a forestay setup that looks like this? It's basically upside-down in the picture - the single wire (would point down when installed) is a short one that connects to the turnbuckle that connects to the front chainplate - the two wires would head up to the mast, one is the main forestay wire and the short one with the clip is for the jib tack.

The single wire headed to the turnbuckle has a couple broken strands, and I'd like to replace it. Based on how unmodified the rest of my boat is, I'm guessing this setup is original and not completely unique, but I haven't found an equivalent part on the BWY store? Any tips would be appreciated. Eventually I will likely replace all my rigging, but for now this is the only piece showing any real damage or wear.

Interesting. I have the plate but my set up is different. The single is the forestay up to the mast and the double is on the down side. One of the double secures the forestay to the chainplate and the other is for the mast raising system. The plate actually goes into a slot on the gin pole and the lifting block and tackle attach to the 2nd hole on the plate and the 2nd hole in the chainplate.

I do not have all the original mast rasing parts so I emulated it when I came up with my set up.
So, I would say the plate is OEM for mast raising system and I think at some point yours was changed around.

Hmm, interesting. I hadn’t thought about the mast raising system because my boat didn’t come with any of the other hardware. But maybe it had one at one point.
