water in the hall

Post by mhobeych »

I am new to the form and a first time owner of 1999 Mac 26x. I bought my boat 4 months ago, it was docked at a lake and I left it there for the last few months, last week I moved it to a dry dock, but discovered water inside the hall (under the batteries). I am not sure what is the source. Has anyone any ideas where to look?

you will probably find little drip/condensate/leakage lines on the inside of the hull adjacant and below the chainplates for the shrouds, windows, and frequently in th eback behind the transom where the motor and sterring cables go through the hull.

It could be rain leaking through the chain plates or railing or winches, etc. If it's going to be on land over the winter, dry it out and check again in the spring, keeping in mind that you will get some condensation :|

A little water and only under the batteries or a lot of water that you first found under the batteries?
Boats get water in them a million different ways and as yours is about 6 to 8 years old some fittings could be loose / caulk dried out etc. Could be like my M was and we had some waves from the stern that came into the bilge egress/ thru hull a cheap one-way plastic valve between the thru hull and the pump fixed that. So IMHO after sitting a few weeks in the water and there's a little water in the bilge no problem . Do try to find where it came from and you'll find lots of info and help here for doing just that.
Windows and chain plates have bee known to leak after awhile so that's a good place to start.
