Ahoy Sailmates,

Working up some courses for legs for a sailing rally for the "Fall Flotilla Sail", October 6-12, 2007 at Lake Mead NV. Launching at Callville Bay Marina. Open to additional suggestions. Here is my first effort:

Leg 1: BOULDER BASIN: Passing CB-A at the entrance to Callville Bay TO the temporary RED buoy "12" marking Flamingo Reed prior to first turn on West End into the Narrows.

Leg 2: VIRGIN BASIN: Passing Yellow Lake Depth recording buoy outside of the Eastern End of the Narrows TO rounding the SW headlands and in line with NE headlands tips of Middle Point Bay.

Leg 3: Passing a line between SW and NE headlands tips of Middle Point Bay TO either (Wind direction and strength dependent):
3.A. OVERTON ARM: Green Marker "13" on Big Horn Island, outside Echo Bay.
3.B. TEMPLE BASIN: Red Buoy "34" off Heron Point, outside Temple Bar Bay

Leg 4: GREGG BASIN: Passing Red Buoy "46" off Channel Reef, Gregg Basin TO Red Marker "54" Sandy Point.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Skippers log in with Name, Name of boat, and boat MFR name and model.
2. Time hack per GPS will be given at the start of first leg via VHF Channel 68. Time of broadcast to be determined.
3. Skippers to record the time in HH MM SS (Military Time) that they passed the referenced points in the various legs.
4. Handicaps will be applied per the handicaps used at annual LVBMA Founders' Day Cup Race.
5. NO MOTORING OR "RUDDER SCULLING" ALLOWED DURING LEG RUNS, SAIL ONLY. If motor has to be used, record that you DNF that leg.
6. All available sails in your onboard inventory are allowed.
7. Rally results to be announced at the Mid Week No Host "Turn Around Wine&Cheese Party".

WATER LEVEL OF LAKE MEAD:

As of 7/07/07 recording by Park Service the water elevation level is down additional 15 feet from 04/05/07 reading. Using the assumed water elevation datum referenced on LAKE MEAD chart from "FISH-n-MAP" of 1210 feet above sea level, that puts the lake down some 100 feet or 1110 feet above sea level. I am using the 90 foot contour as the best reference of shore line on this chart. While Callville Bay ramp area has been dredged, other options for launching might be either Boulder Beach or Echo Bay ramps. Some of the deeper draft boats in the April LVBMA Founders' Day Cup Race, had difficulty launching and recovering. The MacGregors did not.

Those interested, please provide comments and suggestions concerning the rally.
