Good day on the water
Good day on the water
We've been under wind advisories for the last few days but had a prospective customer for our X and we took him out...he hadnt sailed for about 30 years....wasnt long before he had the feel and we were hitting 6 and 7 mph for short spells...had I been trimming the sails correctly and possibly had a reef in we'd have done it for longer periods...the wind was really erratic as the little storm cells passed over but he had a great time....so maybe Idletime will have a new home...if not...it was a day well worth doing...we even remembered how to step and unstep the mast without too much trouble..and did it on the water...
We bought the Adventure Craft last July.....and we really enjoy it...it's not sailing....but instead of 3 or 4 days on the water (at a time)...we are out for a couple of weeks at a time.....compromise....guess that's what it's all about.....I love the X....but I know I'll never get the time on the water that I want with it because after a few days Jim gets uncomfortable...he broke his neck drag racing in the 80's and doesnt have the range of motion it takes to keep your head out of trouble on a small boat...He's 6'2 so there's only a small area he can stand up in below...I tried to talk him into the full enclosure but once he saw the AC he knew what he wanted...we want trailerable so it's in the yard....We spent 3 + weeks on it on the Tenn-Tom waterway shortly after we bought it and Jim wanted to keep on going but I had a family obligation I couldnt put off. Now he's talking "Great Loop".......here's hopeing..

Idle ... though I'm really fond of sailing, I can understand Jim's viewpoint. I've always been partial to AdventureCraft's concept. If I lived on the Chesapeake, for instance, I'd have a tough time choosing which boat to take gunkholing on any given weekend ... 26X, or AC, or Telstar~!??
Of course, as Roger says, "The wind is free!" Decisions, decisions!
I'm pretty sure the Chesapeake would ease the choosing ... when it's 90* & 90%, not much wind anyhow! And considering Geoff's Trent-Severn cruise, a boat like your AC could be a real nice alternative for those canals or locks.

Used boat for sale @ $64,900 (factory list price), 2006 (w/7 eng-hours).

Ours is a 1997 and doesnt have the flybridge....and you can bet your bottom dollar we didnt spend that much...
We are only a short distance from the St Johns River and find we spend most of our time cruising the river....that helped make the decision....it has a roof air but we only used it once....at a marina in MS when we did the Tenn-Tom...we borrowed the courtesy van to go to the store and had to leave it closed up for the dogs....so turned on the air...but there are 8 screened windows in the sides so we havnt had to use it for our selves...so far....it came with 2 2000 watt gensets....the air needs at least 3000 watts and the lady who owned it before us wanted to beable to remove them from the boat when she had to leave town...makes it nice for us...we only carry one during the winter......
I think Jim would be happy on a sailing cat....but that would have to be liveaboard...I'm too cheap to pay marina fees....besides...I want to liveaboard....I wouldnt mind the fees then...

Idle Time
If you ever get around to doing the Loop, please look me up once you are in the Simcoe/Severn part of your trip. I would love to hook up and maybe follow along for a while
I am looking forward to the golden years when I can do the loop myself, I think it is the perfect trip to take, over and over, without ever getting bored of seeing the same things as there is just so much to see, you'd pick up something new every time
Cheers
