A Thousand Days at Sea
Here's an article from today's New York Times for some interesting reading. The links do not seem to be hooked up yet, but will eventually allow us to follow along. Quite ambitious.

Pretty gutsy for that young woman who has never sailed more than the Hudson River.
In one of our postings someone was asking about fishing from a Mac. The getup that this boat has for constantly trolling sounds like whoever started that thread should contact this guy!
After being confined to that boat for thrice around the world in a thousand days, I wonder if their first words after being back on land again will be "marry me" or "See Ya"?

At Sea
I already read this story in the Times and my first thought was they will never make it because she doesn't have enough sailing experience and because they haven't known each other long enough. Three years in basically the same room???
I hope NEITHER one of them gets killed

I have read many books of experienced sailors traversing the Southern Ocean in small yachts. I just can not imagine someone who has never been out in the open ocean in any kind of boat wanting to do this. I'm guessing that Reid has never fully explained to Soanya what awaits her at the bottom of the world.
I experienced some bad weather off the Virginia capes in a 376 foot long 2,200 ton Naval Destroyer that was an eye opener to me. But I can't imagine the Southern Ocean in a 70 foot boat. She is going to cry uncle and bail out at the first opportunity.

Lets see..
an attractive woman seeing only one man for 3 years..........
That my friends................is an extremely rare woman.
Hopefully they used something better than the NASA astronaut screening process....... to determine their compatability.
I have to say tho.....
I bet most of the men on this board.....Have one woman in mind that they would seriously consider such an adventure with.
My guess is the woman who could do that with me tho.....probably lives in a cabin in the alaska wilderness or great slave lake or some such isolation.
given the opportunity with the right woman????.........dont go there D

I read this and think I could not see lasting more than 30 days on a boat that size with ANYBODY without going ashore often and getting some time to myself.
Most of my retired friends, a couple months after retirement, wake up one morning and realize they can't stand spending so much time with their wives and vise versa, so they both end up finding things to do apart so they don't end up killing each other.
