Honda Tachs failing

'96 Honda BF 50

Tach failed a year ago, and now the replacement is fritzed.

Any ideas?

I posted that my tach had failed last year, and it was suggested that my windings were fried under the flywheel . . . which was weird, since the battery still charged. I didn't do anything about replacing the tach, though, since I can pretty much tell 5500RPM by the pitch of the engine.

I think it's time to look for a 3rd party tach.

I'm still interested in Honda's digital gage combo unit. Its a tach / trim / hour meter all in one but they don't list the BF50 as compatible.
They have a wire harness that allows this to work on non-digital engines but I have no idea if that includes a 2003 BF50.
Sure would be cool if I could get it to work but I have OFTF (other fish to fry).
