26x roller sail tack ring

I replaced the forestay in my roller today due to a few broken stands. When reinstalling and pulling the sail tight the metal ring that is pulled down tight to the base of the furling tore off the sail (i.e. the fabric straps broke). I’m still looking to get a season from this sail as I just bought the boat and have a lot of work on my hands..

I’m assuming I can stitch this back on with fabric straps, but would like suggestions on what type of material and thread to use. Any suggestions from anyone who has done similar is appreciated. Thanks.
