Summer Mooring
Hey Guys, 02, 26x,
I am in OH and moving from a dock spot to a summer mooring from April - Oct. It is about 100 yards from shore & will have a unobstructed weather from about 1.5 miles in 1 direction so the potential for some rollers coming in. On my deck I have the BWYachts Anchor Roller. I was planning to use 2 lines from each cleat to capture the mooring ball. However I figure that could introduce additional chaff onto my already worn rubrail. Any tips or tricks to this? Thanks !! Would appreciate pics or details of lines etc. that you all use for long term mooring.

I have the same BWY anchor roller. Along with a pair of SS cleats I also installed a pair of chocks for a mooring bridle through the rub strip
using a simple nut and bolt fastener. Chocks are only a guide for anti chafe. You could also slide a conduit of anti chafe tubing/fabric through the mooring bridle where they meet the rub strip. The chocks in the picture work well with a universal bridle.

Use lots of chafe protection and I would also use rubber shock absorbers. Don’t leave your anchor on the roller as it could become a knife.

Re: Summer Mooring
I'm going to address another mooring topic; the tying up after the return trip.
I don't know if there is anything attached to make grabbing the mooring easy after you return or not, I use this mast buoy.

The mast is bobbing high, and easy to retrieve. No using a pole to grab a mooring ball. The free end of the mooring line is attached to the weight, so when you retrieve it, you just bring it aboard and attach the line to the eyelet on the bow.

Re: Summer Mooring
5 years ago I rented a mooring that was relatively unprotected from weather somewhat similar to your situation. Worried about chafe I attached the mooring bridal to trailer eye using a heavy carabiner. Aside from minor difficulties unattaching the beaner the set up seemed OK ... that is until I got a call that my mast was down! Apparently there was a thunderstorm the night before. The violent bouncing somehow worked the ringding loose releasing the forestay and allowing the mast to fall!! The only thing preventing total mast loss was the genoa sock halyard attached to the pulpit. BWY recommended taping the ringdings to prevent coming loose. I now sandwich the ringding using velcro to secure.
