Boom length - Mac 22

Post by kd7jz »

Hi all;

I have an early 80’s M22. I believe the main sail I have is original equipment but I am not sure about the boom. I run into an issue where my boom will catch on the backstay. My boom is 10’ 5”. When rigged, the clew is a good 6-8” from the end of the boom. That would match what sailboatdata.com says (9’3”). Would any of you M22 owners be willing to put a tape measure to your boom for me?

9' 3"
Mine is a 1982
Sailplan is about 95"
So i have 16-17" of "extra" boom for clew and cleat.
Always thought this was more than necessary.
No bigger mainsail in sight so I am probably gonna shorten it up about 10" ~sometime~ in the future, more brainspace 8)
