2004 M mast manufacturer

Post by gcarmich »

I damaged the mast on my 2004 26M yesterday. I've been looking for the manufacturer of the mast but I have been unsuccessful. Does someone know who manufactured the mast for my year/make/model Macgregor? Thanks. Gilbert

BWY sells replacement masts for the 26M. $750 plus $100 packing plus shipping (motor carrier, 'cause it's 30 ft long). With the sail entry slot or without. P/N 3215-1M0, which has the entry slot.

But to answer your question, I'm afraid I don't know who makes that extrusion.

Depending on where you are located, Dowsar Marine in Hamilton, Ontario will sell you a blank for $1000. Shipping can be problematic.

I had checked with Dwyer and they referred me to Blue Water Yachts. Blue Water has provided me with a quote for the OEM mast for my boat. They will predrill, wire and prep the mast for shipment. Cost of shipping to East Coast from Seattle is half the cost of the mast but at least it will be ready to go out of the box. Thank you for your suggestions.

I would be surprised if they ship you an OEM mast for the 2004M!
Your original mast measurement at the ends are 5.25" X 3" teardrop, the same mast I have and that came with the M till about 2006 maybe a bit later, not sure what year they changed it but at some point it was replaced with 4" X 3" teardrop. Most new M's have the latter size and the smaller teardrop also replaces X's and classics masts, just cut to length. Rumor has it that the old size was too hard to manufacture and that it was more economical to make a one size fits all. Measure the base when you receive delivery and my guess is it will be the smaller teardrop.

You are correct. The replacement is smaller than my original. I noticed that the new end cap was a different dimension. BWY told me that Macgregor determined they could go with a smaller mast.

How have you damaged your mast? I had mine broken in half and fixed it with a splice. When I travel I can store it in 2 pieces along the trailer frame.

It was bent and torn about 2/3 up. No way to piece it back together without cutting out a couple of feet. This would have reduced the height and forced me to rerig everything.
