Steel Trailer Drawing
Hi All,
Does anyone have any drawing of the original Steel Frame 26M Mac Trailer they could share with me?
Many thanks for your help.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
I ended up doing this myself.... This is for my own 2005 Trailer
I measured the trailer and drew this on PowerPoint (took a LONG time!!). It's not brilliant but hopefully understandable?... It's not drawn to scale and it's not 100% accurate, but pretty close....Measurements are in millimeters.
I used the rubber V-Block as a main reference point. There are 5 measurements marked in Red. IMO these are critical points.
I may update this if I discover any errors ... Let me know what you think?
All the best.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
I don't see any elevations for the bunks. When I sketched the bunk arrangement for my OEM
trailer (for future reference), the two large bunks were at the same elevation at the apex, but the little one up front was higher. That's important, as the boat sits on all three bunks at once.
Also, is that the OEM aluminium
trailer? I thought one of the big bunks was actually on the axle.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
Hi Tom,
Yes it's a 2D view at the moment. But I'll try and measure up the 3rd dimension this week.
It's a steel trailer with just one small bow bunk, one big middle bunk and two bunk pads (port and starboard) at the back.
The lack of support often worries me, but it has the 2005 Mac compliance plate, so unless that's counterfeit it's the original trailer. So it's done quite well over the years.
BTW, after doing a Mac Bump I often find the bow sitting 1 or 2 mm above the bow bunk and resting on the V-block instead.... So I'm wondering if I should be doing something like raising the bow bunk?
All the best.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
Thanks Mike,
I believe we need to support each other if we want to sail together
... And I wouldn't wish an 11 or 12 thousand dollar bill on any Macgregor owner.... I still need to crack that problem .... but I'm working on it
All the best.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
I see the problem being once you go over 2000Kg GMV, the price just goes silly after that.
Torque axle suspension may be the way to go, less weight because there are no springs, hangers etc so more load available for the boat even a tandem.
I will have to bite the bullet and give some of the Australian suppliers a call in regard to pricing, but I fear that the price will be nasty

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
I have chased some prices down for torsion suspension
I can see why our friends in the USA just bang on an extra axle, its only a few hundred dollars, here in Australia its thousands
Single axle 2000Kg assembled with 6 stud hubs and hydraulic disks is $1430 you just have to pull off what you have and bolt the new one on - BUT its only available in Landcrusier 6 stud hubs
Tandem axle (1250Kg ea) are $1320ea so $2600 for the pair and are available in ford or holden stud pattern - tandem axles have to be rated an extra 25% so the 2500Kg will give you 2000Kg rating
Thats from Transtyle in Melbourne - 03 9775 1762
Huntsman dont do Torsion suspension

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
Nice find but I'm not so keen because...
I'd like Disc brakes ... Can't bear the idea of those drums in the salt water .... Consequently I can't have electric brakes
... Does anyone do an electric solenoid that pulls the handbrake lever? ... Or is that too simple!!
In my case it's cheap to buy the metal axles from a metal suppliers and have drop axle stubs welded on.... Can wrap that up for $110 an axle.
I'm thinking that the only affordable way to do this is to put together all the parts and metals and make a 2600 GVM trailer myself but the breakaway brakes are the show stoppers.
All the best.

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
My Bunks are made of what looks like constructional pine covered with a blue nylon strip. Surprisingly the wood doesn't appear to be rotting away but I would like to change to another material if I can.... Something more flexible, so under the weight of the Mac it flexes to the curvature of the hull.
Any suggestions on what I could use?
