Cruises / Rallies on the Gulf Coast?
Ahoy Skippers!
I wanted check in about cruises on the Gulf Coast this year... 2016.
I know there is the B.E.E.R. Rally and I think that is in June.
Are there other's?
I would perhaps like to schedule a Rally this year. I was thinking the Gulf Shores to Pensacola area (where I live). If we get nuts we could go from Biloxi to Pensacola...
Thoughts?

Re: Cruises / Rallies on the Gulf Coast?
If you could perhaps post a tentative float plan then maybe we could decide if it is feasible to do. Would this be a weekend or a week long? would we be returning to ramp where we launch from? or any other details would be appreciated. Plans don't have to be set in stone but having some Idea as to what is going on would help.
I ask cause I am very much interested.

Re: Cruises / Rallies on the Gulf Coast?
So, here's what I am pondering.
B.E.E.R Cruise is about socializing (from what I read) and is in June.
Is there any interest in a good couple of days combining all the MacGregors can do?
Example:
Day 1: RACE DAY: Fairhope Yachtclub, Alabama - Race Day! Kick Off dinner at the Yacht club.
Day 2: SAIL DAY: Sail to Tacky Jacks (20 miles or so due south on the mobile bay). Upon arrival, tour Fort Morgan
Day 3: MOTOR DAY: From Tacky Jacks down the Intercoastal Waterway, Lunch at lulu's, and anchor in Ingram Bayou for the night
DAY 4: FISHING DAY: Local Fishing Tourney in the local waters. There a numerous places to haul out in the area, like Barber Marina.
DAY 5: Optional: If we plan late (November) then we can watch the Blue Angels in Pensacola
We could also plan this around a concert at The Wharf in Orange Beach or something going on at FloraBama.
This would involve a launch location and recovery location in different areas.
Feedback? I 've never planned one before so this may be a bad plan - different launch and pick up locations. If we want to launch and pick up in the same spot...
Day 1: MOTOR DAY: Launch at Wolf Bay or Barber Marina, and Motor ICW to Tacky Jacks & Fort Morgan.
Day 2: RACE DAY: Local Race on Mobile Bay
Day 3: MOTOR DAY: From Tacky Jacks down the Intercoastal Waterway, Lunch at lulu's, and anchor in Ingram Bayou for the night
DAY 4: SAILING DAY: Head out into the Gulf via Perdido Pass, sail to Sailboat Cove
DAY 5: FISHING DAY, RECOVERY, GRILLING: at Wolf Bay or Barber Marina
Or we can combine days.
There are tons of places to stop / see.
The Wharf at Orange Beach
Bama Henge
Flora Bama
Tacky Jacks
Fort Morgan
Day at the Beach
Robinson Island
Sailboat Cove
Blue Angels
Thoughts?

BEER cruise starts at the Pensacola shipyard marina, then to Clearwater beach and Sailboat cove sailing about 10 miles per day. Some years it goes as far as Pirate's cove. This year it starts on June 17th.
Some people stay for an extra day or two. We are planning to be there for the 5th time.

Yeah, I'm going to go the BEER Cruise, looks like a lot of fun!Sea Wind wrote:BEER cruise starts at the Pensacola shipyard marina, then to Clearwater beach and Sailboat cove sailing about 10 miles per day. Some years it goes as far as Pirate's cove. This year it starts on June 17th.

And it may not make sense to have another longer event in the same area?
But one that 1) hits a few points over some distance and 2) kinda is centered around the versatility of Mac?
Also, question: Is the BEER Cruise a MacGregor event? or is it a regional rally?

There is the Florida 120 the Thursday after Mother's Day starting at Pensacola. If you do Facebook check them at "FL 120 2016".
A Mac will fit right in at the BEER but is larger then most at the 120. I have been to both.

Most boats are trailer sailers from all over the country plus some larger local boats. I counted about 10 Macs last year, one came all the way from Canada. Also, question: Is the BEER Cruise a MacGregor event? or is it a regional rally?

Again, this is really a social cruise isn't it? I mean, I'm looking forward to it! But is there any interest in doing something that covers some ground?
I'm going to look at the FL 120 definitely!

Re: Cruises / Rallies on the Gulf Coast?
Have you thought about having a weekend thing for example in my area I want to do the following:
Friday: launch at Long Beach and spend night at dock
Saturday: sail 12 miles to Cat Island. Spend night, raft up or cookout on the beach.
Sunday: sail back Long Beach and recover.
