Chinook cruising the Broughtons

We're out on a 6 week summer cruise on the British Columbia coast. We started out in Oak Harbor, WA and spent 5 days in Anacortes, attending the 25th annual Blue Water Yachts Mac Owners Rendezvous. Great time there. Then we took off, headed north, on the Inside Passage route. Our plan is to spend about 3 weeks poking around in the Broughton Islands, which are on the BC coast, just north of the tip of Vancouver Island. We hope to make it up to Nakwakto Rapids, passing them at slack of course (they can run as fast as 16 knots at ebb or flood), and then into the remote waters of Belize Inlet. Thats beautifull country up there, i have been as far as Campbell River but not buy boat
r u going too the Broughton Archipelago Marine Provincial Park enjoy ur trip hope the weather is good for u , how far up do the cruise ships go

Cruise ships do the Inside Passage as far as Pine Island in Queen Charlotte Strait and then head north offshore to Dixon Entrance. I've been on ships that have followed Hecate Strait and one even sailed west of the Queen Charlotte Islands. But it was going to Sitka as its first Alaska stop. It's faster than the central coast inside route with its turns and narrow passages.

Your in my backyard now. If you like adventure try going into twin lagoon on Broughton island. It is tight but can be done. Great crabbing !

Next time in Bond sound try a walk up the Ahata River to a nice waterfall. We dragged our dingy up the lagoon there and you can go quite a ways at high tide.

There is a very small lagoon near Shawl Bay. It is on the narrow spit at end of Simoon Sound, but you access it from the Shawl Bay side. This one is crazy tight! I actually walk the boat in. It is basically a large tidal pool. Nice trail from there to Simoon Sound. We pack the kayaks or dingy along to explore the sound.

Von Donop Lagoon is also accessible, barely! There is an amazing trail from the end of the lagoon that takes you to Squirrel Cove and the rest of Von Donop Inlet.
