Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
I have acquired a 10' inflatable dinghy (and 2.5 HP Mercury).
Sent in the registration paperwork to Mississippi Dept of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and now have the registration. Need to apply the registration number decals to the dinghy.
So just wondering if there are any issues with applying the normal black number/letter stickers to an inflatable that will be semi-routinely deflated/inflated?
Any inflatable owners out there that have done this?
Thanks,
Jim

Many apply decals/numbers to a board they attach to the inflatable.

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
I plan to use my dingy next year and I'm going to put the registration on a removable board, attached to the dingy.
Maybe that would conform to the rules in your state as well?

I am sort of in the same spot I think I will stencil in the numbers on the hull with a sharpy and hope the best for the sticker - Man Florida drove me crazy with the boat its a Intex Mariner4 I got on Ebay for $112.50 Brand new in Distressed package I ended having to call the seller for a signed bill of sale (Ebay receipt was rejected) and call Intex for a Certificate of Origin (the download version was rejected) literally took me 3 weeks to register because of red tape. I hope I have luck with it.

I had heard about that...wasn't sure of the legalities. Not sure how I would hang a "board" unless it was on the sides (rather than up at the bow).
Here are some pics:

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy

We used the stencils and a kit with the paint from I think Defender Marine. It lasts pretty well. Ours has been on for about 5 months on the water total over about 3 years.

...and the picture above was taken at the end of that time. The numbers are on the boat, but the yearly decals are on a small aluminum plate that hangs from the lines on the dinghy just aft of the numbers (to the left of my elbow). That way we could remove them when needed and also put new stickers on each year. I have pictures of that somewhere.
This is ....

...the current setup, yet to be used on the water. The numbers are on Top Gun material from Sailrite and slide into pockets so they can be removed if needed and the yearly tags are on pieces of aluminum that go into pockets just behind the numbers and the dinghy chaps mod is here.....

I also used a stencil kit that came with a vinyl type of paint. It has been eight seasons since I put the numbers on my Achilles inflatable, and they still look good.

Riffing on what Sumner said: some folks down here stencil the numbers on the bow, but put the decal on the stern board where the motor goes.

I've never been hassled about dinghy registrations in either the Peopkes Repuliks of NY or MA....this might be something you can put off until convenient

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
I could probably get away with that since the registration is a plastic ID card that goes in my wallet. So if stopped I would have proof of registration on me.

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
This is what I bought for our dinghy. I will attatch it to the lifeline with zipties. Work in progress, and we'll see how this works in the Bahamas.

I didn't want to "paint on" the reg. We had to change from NH to OH,and it was a nuisance removing the old painted reg.

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
I use my dingy about 4 times a year. It's not registered and refuse to pay the $45 yearly charge. No problems yet.
Wonder what they would fine me for or give me a warning?
Doubt it would be more than $50 if wanted to write it up, to many dinks in FL are not registered.

Re: Registration markings on inflatable dinghy
We bought our dinghy from a guy in Florida and he said that since he didn't have a motor on it there was no need for registration. Not sure if that was right or not. Same in Utah, but since we put a motor on it we pay in Utah. So you might be fine if you only row it??DaveB wrote:I use my dingy about 4 times a year. Dave,
I asked at the Tax-Collectors office when I recently registered the
and was told that I don't need to register the dinghy as long as there is no motor attached to it.

No need in Canada, unless you're going Stateside (second paragraph):
