I got caught out in sea fog last year so decided to buy a radar reflector. I chose (purly for stowage reasons) a twin diamond set up that slots together. I thought of placing a pulley on the spreader bars and hoist it up when needed. Are these reflectors 100% effective and where is the best place to raise it. How do i test it?.
I sail in some of the most crowded waters in the world and i like to think once it's up, i can be seen.
Corner reflectors have good coverage, but also have some pretty deep nulls. Using a pair of them reduces the probability that you'd reflect nothing back to a source. See this thread for more info and some good links to real world tests.
In Spain it's obligatory for all the fiber boats. I have one cylindrical because it's the one that less occupies, but is not the best one. Whatever more surface has, better works. I take it hung of backstay http://es.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/alrg20 ... pg&.src=ph
