The Admiral and I are heading to the North Channel for a week next July. We have several charts and guide books for guidence.
Any suggestions on your favorite mooring, berry-picking, dining spots, ground tackle, provisions, or other ideas?
We plan to launch at Spanish, and may join the Trailer Sailors group during their cruise.
Most of the cruising we've done has been in a large inland lake (Lake Winnebago) and the Bay of Green Bay.
Thanks,
Dale
If you have the Ports guide book and the Richardson charts you should be fine. Don't miss Covered Portage and make sure to get some fish and chips in Killarney. (Dingy over from Covered Portage - dock space is limited.) Also check out the Anchor Inn in Little Current. Do try to spend some time with the Trailer/Sailors - tons of good advice and a wealth of local knowledge. Check their website for more information - it's worth the membership fee. http://www.trailersailors.org/index.php
We went on a 5 day cruise out of Killarney in August, 2003, and enjoyed that area very much. I highly recommend going up to the head of Baye Finne (sp?). The scenery is wonderful, and "the pool" at the head of the fjord is a delightful destination. I concur with the recommendation of fish and chips at Killarney. You have lots of cruising options out of there. I recall the launch ramp there was fine, and I didn't have any trouble finding parking for truck and boat trailer. Only problem was that they didn't sell diesel fuel for our truck, and I darned near ran out of fuel with the round trip in and out of there. I've got a couple of charts for the waters in the vicinity of Killarney. PM me if you would be interested in them. Good luck with the trip.
Hi Dale! Benjamin Islands are a must see at some point if possible in your trip. Kagawong to the south on Manitoulin Island is a pretty nice little village! As Jim said, Ports book has the info!
