How Many Of Us Are One boat Owners?

Post by GaryMayo »

How many of us are two or more?

I ask because the power Macs seem to be an answer for everything. Sailing, power boating, even house boat like

I long for a sailboat, but the idea of something smaller, little smaller, with a beefy engine capable of 60MPH is appealing to me, for those times I may not want the chore of rigging a sailboat, or i have the desire to pull a boat behind my motor home. 30 foot mast behind a 70 foot long rig is asking for tickets.

Is it possible the Mac 25 I already have, co mingled with a speed boat, is my cup of tea? I want to go to our local river to play around some this spring, and maybe a sailboat even with a 60 hp engine is not the best way to go. Lots of deals on great looking powerboats for a fraction of what an x or am m would cost, if you shop around. Craigs list is crawling with them.

I'm confused...
I thought you had purchased a new(used) M...

have you owned powerboats before the sailboat? I had one before my 1st car.

Boats are like tools you can use one for a lot of tasks, and just like a crescent wrench, and it will get the job done, But its really nice to have the right tool for the right job.

a lot depends on your budget, or how much time you have.

What do you want to do on big rivers?
waterski? (skinautique),
cruise (trawler, or express), fishing... well it depends on what type... bass =ranger, offshore= contenter or bertum.

Tell me what you think you want to do.. and your budget, and who you want to take.

You could get a nice powerboat, sell you mac25 and buy a small sailing boat like a lightning or similar. Easy to launch and rig. Nice for an afternoon.

I just have the Mac 25 now, and have no desire for a powerboat, though my wife has mentioned that she wouldn't mind doing less work to get on the water. Still, I don't think she's going to suggest a powerboat unless she see's a 26. In that case....

Gary, when we finally made the jump and bought our :macm: it felt like the end to a long game of 'Snakes and Ladders'. Sorta like you're going through.....

You should buy one of those new black Mac's and shorten your motor home!

I'm seriously thinking about building a Puddle Duck with my grandkids and sail it on our small (no power boats) local lakes.

.

I started a thread saying the deal was off, or on hold because of rot I found in the seat and my concerns that an 8 HP engine was not large enough.

I may still purchase the boat. Seat is being repaired, and a larger engine is being located. However, I am looking at other larger engine options.

OK, thanks for the update!

FWIW; I own a 1988 26D, a laser, 3 kayaks, and a square back canoe...
plus access to ~12 sunfish and 5) 420's... (at the sailing club).
and am looking for a skiff in the > 17' range.... (probably closer to 14' for the flats)

in the past owned a hobie 16, windsurfers, and numerous skiffs in the 18-25' range.

I think getting an X or M with a 60+ engine will meet your needs. just keep looking. and Good luck!

I am accually hoping to find a 26 with a small engine. because I want to go with a big one, and don't want to pay for a 50 HP one, just to get the boat.

have you considered buying it with the small engine, and then putting a bigger one on next season, once you figure out what you want?

I am $$$ limited so that is what I was thinking to do.

Had a Larson 17' I/O when we bought our :macm: in 2005... but sold it the following year because it was no longer getting any use. Essentially, the powerboat required a "destination" -- in the Mac, once the sails were full, we'd "arrived"... didn't much matter the direction of the wind, because the Nissan 50 could always get us back when day was done.

Now, as of early this spring, we once again own a 2nd boat -- but it is a sailboat with human power as its backup, and the ability to go almost anywhere - a Hobie Tandem Island.

We call it our "water toy".

Hey if you build one...

...PM me if nothing else and let me know how you like it. We'd like to have something to use on the couple local lakes, there are 3 withing 5 minutes of the house. I'd like to get a V-17, since we could still overnight in it if we went over to Colo. or another lake 20 miles away, but would like something with less draft and easier yet you just put in the water and go with.

I like the ...

... Grout where they take two functioning Puddle Ducks and join them together with a third piece. Ruth and I could race each other and hook up at the end of the day 8).

About the boats we have? 4 right now counting the Mac, the Endeavour, the Zodiac and a Grumman Canoe.

How about how many outboards does one have?

For us 6 right now, the 5 in the picture and an older Johnson Sea Horse out of the picture  . The Honda 8 HP needs to find a new home,

Damn! I better get on Craigslist! You've got me beat!

(I 'only' have 3, the merc 9.8 for the sailboat, and a 15 and 9.9 for an aluminum that was scrapped...
so the 9.9 and 15 are useless at the moment...

maybe I can get this one... ;)

If it floats on water and is designed to convey people from one place to another... it's a boat, IMHO. :)
