Trying to identify early 70s Venture

Post by athensarch »

Hello,

My dad has a Macgregor Venture that he's trying to find more information on (he's selling since it's sat in storage the past 4+yrs instead of being used). When he purchased it from a private party he was told its a 1973 or 1974 and that it's 22'. It has a pop-to (does that make it a 2-22 or 222?). The photos attached have a custom mast he built (although he has all the original mast/parts/sails/cushions/etc.) If anyone could help identifying it I would really appreciate it!

Awesome boat! She's a Venture of Newport. I once had a chance to pick one up real cheap, I'm still kicking myself for not getting it. :| Here's some links where you can learn all about these beautiful boats.

Yep, she's a 23' Venture of Newport all right. Here are a couple more links specific to the VN23:

Venture 23 "Clipper" Roger went back in time and modeled it on the old pilot boats. Great little boat and fun to sail. Will turn heads always. Fair Winds and Full Sails.

Thank you everyone! He ended up tentatively selling it to someone for $2000 and included a 36V 4.6 Minkota Riptide motor, 1 ACDelco-Voyager Marine Deep Cycle M27MF Battery and 10amps 36v microprocessor charger model LV-3600. I don't think he's getting a fair deal, but he doesn't want to wait abit longer/ put in any effort into advertising the sale.
