Adding fresh water system?

Where is the best place on the deck to drill a hole for a water fill? I plan on putting a 10 gallon hard tank just forward below the galley on the port side. I have a 1999 26X. Thanks in advance!

Well, that depends on where are you mounting the tank below decks.


I opted to use two 5gal plastic jugs for supply. Others prefer bladder tanks under the aft berth. Lots of choices.

I have a 30 gallon bladder under the rear berth.. Hummmm More weight in a bad location. I then installed my filler in the Transom up high on the side..
Filler on Starboard, with my Raw water wash down spigot on the port side ...

We fitted twin 150 litre bladders, one forward of the galley (26X) and the other under the table seat....twin fillers on deck right at the rear near the bimini mounts...allows for filling on land and water.Also fitted a balancing valve but its small 1/2" capacity tends to be slow....an overnight proposition.Main usage is from the galley sink tap but about to add an exterior flexible shower/tap.To simplify our gray water management we've actually going to do away with the head basin waste but will probably incorporate it into our head floor waste for when the shower system is fitted.Drinking water is seperate in jerry cans as any tank seems to eventually inpart a flavour which is not acceptable.We have the same problem in our motorhome....no matter what you do to the tanks they don't supply drinking water even when boiling for tea or coffee

MY advice is don't drill...fill Bladders or water containers is the best choice as far as I am concerned.

Think our system is still in the mods section but we have a plastimo bladder under the rear berth which holds about 100 litres then a 100 litre aluminium tank divided in two under the front vee berth where the positive flotation was.
These are connected to the shurflo pump via valves so that water can be imported by mains pressure hose fitting under the rear seat, the tanks can be filled individually or seperately and emptied the same way with the pressure pump the hose fitting doubles as a deck shower and the galley has two filters (.5 micron) to a spout and the old manual pump faucet is there direct in case of a breakdown.
With 200l of water we have ample for two weeks and can be stretched to four depending on other supplies and outside water but we also use our as a caravan probably more than a boat when travelling.

I put a 26 gal bladder in the most forward access in the V-berth.
Ran the filler hose up thru the forward end of the V-berth, outside
of the anchor locker.. Tough, but doable. Then the supply line runs
to a pump mounted just forward of the galley sink under that seat.
Oh yes, I'm talking about a 26X, the best !!

I put a hard 10gal tank under V Berth----then ran that to a bladder under dinette floor (holds about 8 gals)---then to pump--ran cpvc from pump to galley and head--will use PEX if I have to do it again. I had to remove a bit of foam for the tank--did the install and replaced foam. Anytime I have replaced foam with something else, I have made for it up by putting foam in another location. If tank is empty, it should add to floatation.
Install of fill line was a real pita--stainless fill with screw in cap on far starboard deck just aft of anchor locker--hard to find a suitable location up there and threading the flexible plastic line was really tough, but I really needed more weight up front and less weight aft.
