Mac 26m/26x trailer question
I have a 26m steel trailer that I'm getting ready to list for sale. Before I list it, I was wondering if any of the other Mac's would fit on it, like the 26x, 26s, 26d, ... Does anyone know?
I assume the 26x will fit on it, not sure about the others but wanted to check before I post it.

Re: Mac 26m/26x trailer question
Ended up getting the Load Rite Elite Trailer model LR-AB27T6000102LTB1. At 6,000 pound cap, it's way more trailer than I need but I got it because the length is right and only $200 more than the next size down. Figured it was worth it. The Load Rite Elite has the best bunk setup for a Mac 26m or x, plus the Elite comes with a bunch of upgrades and extras as standard equipment.

Re: Mac 26m/26x trailer question
I just looked at the LoadRite Elite catalog and I like what I see.
If I am not being too personal, can I ask you for a ballpark figure of the cost?
I plan on upgrading in the future and would like to know for budget purposes.
I assume that the bunks need to be adjusted for your boat. Is that something that you can do yourself, or is it better to have the dealer take care of it? The nearest Loadrite dealer is 130 miles away from me.

Paid $3,444 plus tax and tags. You can drop down one trailer size and save about $200, but I like having the taillights closer to the back of the boat. Should be no problem setting the bunks yourself, they need to be 4 feet apart. I will have to wait till I take delivery, but I believe you want to set it for 24 feet from the bow eye rest (winch stop) to the back of the bunks. I still need to get the Mac on the trailer before I can confirm this, so I can get the weight distribution set correctly.Bransher wrote:I just looked at the LoadRite Elite catalog and I like what I see.

Re: Mac 26m/26x trailer question
It appears that the boat will sit just as low as on the MacGregor trailer. Do you agree?

I'm hoping it will sit just as low, though I suspect it will be higher. Completely different setup and the dealer does not stock them, so i don't have anything to judge it by. Won't know for sure till I get the new trailer.

Fxwg80hd,
When do you expect to pick up your trailer? Those of us that are also planning on a replacement would love to have pictures of your Mac on the new trailer and details of the steps necessary to adjust the bunks, winch location and anything else you have to do for set up. Please keep us posted.

Re: Mac 26m/26x trailer question
New trailer will arrive in about 10 days. I will post pictures once I have the trailer setup along with adjustments made.
Still wondering if anyone knows if a 26m trailer will fit a 26x or any other Mac's?

Chris,
Just wanted to thank you for sharing your information on the new trailer.
Your original objective was to receive an answer to your question and I am surprised that an answer has not come forth yet. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the older Macs.

Im guessing the rear would be okay, but the front of the
and
are different and would require rework of the bunks. This isnt beyond the intermediate mechanic ability though.

My only direct experience has been with the
, but back when we were shopping for a boat we looked closely at a pre-
MacGregor 26, and I would think the hull shape of those earlier boats is a really close match to the
, at least as far aft as the hull is supported.

I have been trying to find pictures of a
trailer so I can compare. From the little bit I can see in the pictures, it really looks like the same trailer. The only concern is whether the
trailer can handle the swing keel on the

Re: Mac 26m/26x trailer question
Found some more pictures of the
trailer in the Mods section of this website and the
trailer appears to have less angle on the bunks than the
trailer. Not sure it is enough to make a difference and the trailer might not need any mods to fit a
, but that is something I will let someone else worry about. I'll simply list as a
trailer. If someone ask, I'll tell them they are welcome to look and make up their own mind.
