Racing Rules Options 2

Post by brianhar »

Well the voting on weighted centreboards went 2 against to 3 for. Not what I'd call a decisive opinion.

To form decent opinions we need as many Australians voting as possible. Even if you have no intention of racing at this point in time, maybe one day you will. So please take the time and give us your opinion..

So this time the question is in regards to should we allow backstays in racing or not. This is a mod that is relatively easy to do and has the potential to increase your wind range before the need to reef. In a race this can make a considerable difference to your performance, as taking the time to reef (no matter how good your sytem for reefing is) will cost you time and posibly position
Last Sunday in racing at Geelong (VIC), we needed to reef fairly early in the race (around 20 - 25 knots), and ended up shaking the reef out later on when the wind reduced down to bugger all. I think that I made not of needed to reef if I had a backstay fitted.
However like most things here, I just want a set of rules that we're all happy with.

So please have a vote (if your Australian).

Thanks

Brian

PS. To all you :macx: owners please excuse my purely :macm: question.

Hi Brian,
Yes, I think the backstay should be allowed, another advantage is it allows the
boat to point a bit higher, by allowing the forstay to be tensioned up.
