Dura-Tanks and cutting the gas tank storage area

Post by Mark Prouty »

Should I cut my gas tank area a little. I figure 1/4 inch sides and bottom. I'm afraid I'll wreck my boat. Any suggestions?

I wouldnt.

Like I posted on the leak thread, the inner liner and deck are joined there.

If you remove part of it, youre likely to have a gap there.

Mark,
Looks as if some measuring is called for.

Oops - turn the page and it's already done!

Mark:

I cut 3/8-inch off the whole bottom edge of the TOP of the locker opening, nothing off the sides. This was for all the tanks, not just the Duratanks.

If your tanks are not too full, you can open the vent and push down on the top to reduce the height, then close the vent to keep them squished. They go in and out of the locker easier when squished.

At Denny's, they'd describe that as "moons under my hammies!"
:D
I prefer to set my tanks with the caps in first, so that the connectors are easy to reach from cockpit. Very nice half-moon, Mark. It looks perfect now! Mine is done exactly the same way - and no, I never did trim the edges except for the half-moon at top.

You people got me confused did you change the pic at the top of this post?

The pic shown shows the tanks already in plus a half moon is already cut.

Or is this just a pic of someone elses boat ?

Sorry about that. The picture is after I made the cut. I overwrote the original on my website for this thread:
