Batteries are so expensive, finicky, and ineffiecient. Not to mention that the good ones consume a bunch of rare materials sourced in friendly places like China.
I would love to see someone install a flywheel storage system (someone else first  ). Several years back there was one company trying to use flywheel energy storage in a car. Great idea, no pesky battery acid, and freakin spectacular when the bearings fail and the fragments get past the containment.

Yep, we would probably have about eight 6 volt batteries ($800), but they last a number of years if cared for and all of that time some generating plant wouldn't have to be burning something to supply us with elect. 8) . Excess electrical output would go into heating water that would primarily be heated by solar directly and also into resistance heat if there was further excess.

I've also read abut the flywheel storage system, but it probably isn't viable now for someone like us,

Sumner,
I have been thinking of changeing over to 2-6volt batteries as I have used them in the past on my Compac 19 and liked them.
Over in North Fort Myers there is a place called Affordable Golf Cart Batteries.
There top of the line Trojans T105 cost $90.50 including fed costs with you bringing old batteries in. If you don't have Golf Cart type batteries add $7 to each battery
as the core is much heavier than standard deep cycle batteries.
I use them on all our Golf Cart batteries at the Water Park I work at and lasts min. 3years and are beaten to death (not chargeing, not maintaining fluid etc.)

Thanks, I've talked to them on the phone before and might use them. There is also a battery store near the boat that has them for about the same price and also a guy comes to the boatyard to service their golf carts and he is about the same price and will help me get the old batteries (four 6 volt) out of the boat and down on the ground and the new ones in which would really help. I'll probably go with him if he is the same price when we return. The batteries in the Endeavour are junk now except for the start battery.

He and the other place also have Powertron batteries for about $73 and I'm considering them as both places sell a lot of them. The Trojan's are 225 AH and the Powertron 210 AH so a little less, but with all of the solar we have on the Endeavour and 4 batteries and less demand with the better fridge I don't think the smaller ones would be noticeable.

Sooner or later we will switch the Mac over to the same type batteries. Much better than the deep cycle 12 volt Marine/RV batteries we are using now,

Sumner,
This Past weekend I Spent Sunday on a Friends 37 Cat. Sailboat that was powered by two 9.8 hp Yamaha outboards in each hull.
They came back from a 6 month Bahama Trip. They have 10 yr old Solar Panels (160 watts total) that Powered all their elect. needs including a Adla Barber Rifig.
with Freezer, auto pilot ETC. They have 4 Gel batteries.
There previous boat back years ago was the Endeavor 37 shallow draft 4.6, just like your boat.
They did extensive cruising on that boat and if you would like contact with them send a e-mail to me.
They are interested in moving back to a mono hull, is yours a Aor B plan?

Dave[/quote]

Ours is a B plan. We were kind of looking for the A, but now that we have the B and I've considered our needs I think it was the better choice for us even if by mistake  I like the added storage in the cockpit and also the access to the area behind the engine and under the helm via that storage. We also like the forward cabin and larger v-berth. I can see where for some the A would have advantages, but if we didn't have a boat now and I knew what we do now we would look for another B.

I probably don't have any questions for them now, but if you get a chance PM me the contact info if it is ok with them. Thanks,
