Post by Bill Earnhardt »

1995 Ford F-250, 460 ci.
It dosn't even know the M 26 is hooked on to it.
Up hill, down hill, with or without the Mac, it gets 12 mpg.

1972 Ford f-250 Camper special with a 429 and brake upgrade package.
Uphill.downhill around corners or sitting on the driveway shut off. It gets 9 MPG.
Keep your foot outta the throttle or the boat will be sitting on the pavement.

On Edit: My kids actually call it "The Beast"

2004 Chevy Trailblazer 2WD 4.3L V-6. Worked just fine on my trip from Jacksonville FL to Norfolk VA and back. Sways a little when the big trucks go by. I drive 65 on the interstate and only get 10-11 mpg while towing.

Next truck will be BIGGER!

2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4, Duramax/Allison diesel.
12 mpg towing, 16-19 mpg non-towing freeway.
My everyday driver, and simply the fastest vehicle I've owned in many, many years.

( @ 6800 lbs, simply can't get much bigger~! )

tow beast

2001 X towed by 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8 V6 with factory 3500# tow pack. Longest jaunt was 3200 miles, Michigan to Flamingo FL and back, mid and back van seats out of van, all gear from boat cabin carried in van, drove 55-65 mph, allowed speed to ease uphill and gain downhill just like the semi's, averaged 15.3 mpg.
Usual tow is spring and fall 65 miles, storage yard to slip and back.
Van alone on highway gives 21-22 mpg at 70 or so, but is used mostly for local, e.g. a run to the lumber yard.
However, our local U-haul shop rents a Ford f-150 with trailer hitch for towing boats , etc....a day towing my boat 65 miles to the slip would cost less than $100. So someday the van may get replaced by a 30-40 mpg smaller vehicle and the boat get towed by a rental????

Duet is towed by a perfect tow vehicle. My 1997 Ford Expedition 4x4 with 5.4L V8, limited slip, factory tow package, four corner air suspension, and 17" Bridgestone Dueler Revo AT tires. Water, mud, slime, snow on steep ramps no problem. Towing the X at 65 mph it averages 13 mpg anywhere. Towing my 8'x26', 5500lb travel trailer only 8 to 10 mpg at 60 mph depending on terrain and wind direction.

The 1997 Mac. X is new to me but with my new tandem axel aluminum trailer hauled out the Mac. in a steep ramp with no problems. On highway can bearly feel it but backing into behind my house in soft muchy Floratam grass I smell the clutch a little.
1999 ford quad cab pickup, 4.2 liter 6 cylinder 5 speed standard trans.with a 5000 lb bumper and recent put on a 6000 lb frame hitch so I can make sharper turns and trailer does't hit bumper.
I haven't added brakes but will for front axel only when I feel like spending the $500 bucks.
It pulls easier than my Potter 19 single axle trailer.

This thread has to be the record for speed of posts - 2 pages in only a few hours :!:

My vehicle's a 2003 Kia Sorrento 2.5ltr diesel 4wd. Maybe not well known in USA, but sells pretty well in UK. Recommended tow car by Caravan magazine for more than two years running.

Towed the :macx: effortlessly when I collected it, but I have yet to try pulling it out of the water up a ramp - hopefully that will happen in the next couple of months :)

2002 Hilux 3 lt turbo tray loaded with 12' aluminium dinghy and trailer on roof of canvas lined crate and many neccessary items inside including spare fuel dinghy motor, water etc etc for load of one tonne plus.
Have towed Mac also with all long term cruising accessories for probably 15,000 k's and no problems except noticed port trailer tyre has delaminated and seems like axle is bent (gutter).
With heavy duty suspension tows like a dream but suffers on large hills up east coast or head wind if I don't build up a bit prior, gets approx 12 mpg fully loaded at about 60 mph and yes is overloaded and underpowered but like the Mac it is so versatile for the rest of my lifestyle.
