Here are a couple of the mods posted for cutting the helm seat.
I did something similar, removed the seat hinge and cut the seat with a circular saw. Then filled the hollow inside with Great stuff.
For a seat I simply cut a 1 X 8 inch plank to fit down in the groove and have a single bolt that drops in like a pin to hold it securely. I varnished it and it looks nice.
now I can stand easily behind the helm when motoring, remove the seat to go off the stern with the bimini up. It gives more room in the cockpit, reduces weight aft and even looks better to me.
