Hey, here's some new pics of me sailing around the Bay with my women. Not sure if I should put the pics in the post or just link to webshots....sooo I'll put them here until someone says otherwise.
Captain and his crew...I love this boat...
ModNote: Great to see some vacation pics Dave ... nice crew;
But add some notes regarding the Bay & info about your weekend;
(check that ... we don't need too much info about your wknd);
For starters, which Bay ... Chessie?, any ramp info, marinas, beaches, etc?
Show a few pictures, plus a link to your album & slideshow;
We'll re-title it and archive into the E & V forum. ~fc
After that excellent post of sailing companions, I don't think I will post photos of my two Pomeranians on my boat. I could try, but I don't think they can pose that good.
Oh well, if you insist, here is Captain Cody after pulling the anchor up by his teeth. I hope you will note that he is wearing his personal floatation device. He can shread your ankles if you don't jibe correctly.
Well...some details about this weekend. Saturday night I thought I'd attempt to derig the boat by myself...first time ever...
I knew rigging it the first time only took about 40 min and lowering and raising the mast only took about 20 min each time with some helpers....well it ended up taking me about 3 hours by myself to lower the mast and secure everything for towing. Trying to secure a roller furler is a pain. As is getting the spreaders under the life lines without causing destruction. I'm going to be adding quick release pelican hooks up front on the lifelines after this weekend.
Have any of you used these up front? My boat was from Bill at boats4sail and he has these at the back of the forward cockpit stanchions as to add a gate on ether side of the cockpit. These are very nice however I think it'd be even nicer to have these up front to slack the life lines for lowering the mast and to avoid bending a spreader.
Well...after wasting all of my drinking time playing with the boat on Saturday Night, we woke up early Sunday and launched the boat from my girlfriend's parent's place on Dividing Creek (VA side of the Chesapeake Bay near Kilmarnock). We went south around the marsh and down to Cedar's Beach.
Pulled the boat up into the sand and buried the anchor. Carried the cooler on shore with some folding chairs and had a blast. The tide had dropped a bit since I beached so I enlisted a little help to get her back off the beach. While we only powered there, it was an awesome day.
Oh, forgot to tell you about the crazy looks I received pulling on the beach in the Mac. Everything from....."that guy must be lost...this is a power boat beach to"..."I'm so not helping that #@#%@#$@ dig out his keel when he tries to leave"
After I jumped off the boat without a worry some people came up and started talking to me, asking #1 how on earth I got my sailboat up on plane? #2 how I was going to get it off the beach?

(you can rotate that pic in Photobucket and orient it correctly without a new link btw.....)
yeah, I got a lot of errors trying to fix the picture on photobucket and now that I try to go back in it's saying the site is down for maintenance but will keep serving photos...i'll check it again an a couple hours.
DAVEWVU86,
I see where you stuck your bow a little bit into the sand and wowed the power-boaters. Next time, why not go for the "full-monty"? See pic below. You'll need 7 hours of free time to pull this off.
Opie
For a boat with a "VA" or "MD" bow number, "THE Bay" is the Chesapeake ... and, being local-centric, we always believe this is (or should be) understood from Down East Maine to the Puget Sound, and beyond the Great Waters.
Great story, great pictures, and now I feel even lonelier about sailing my bit of the Potomac single-handed ...

I'll need a MUCH MUCH bigger cooler to last 7 hours...acutally make that 2 coolers because I'll have to wait for the water to come back...

Well said. Oh, and the cure to single handing is to go to the cheapest happy hour in town and brag to every cute girl about your boat...works for me!
...Well ladies, it's like this... we're stuck on this beach till the next tide comes in, maybe longer. But don't worry, I've seen all the Gilligans Island shows... we can survive this. We'll have to ration our supplies, so for the first night, we'll have the Captain Morgans... and a DAVE sandwich....

Perhaps you should send us that list of watering holes......
Quite serious. It works well. Go to a place with cheap drinks and talk to the young girls...they'll think you're rich and not realize how cheap the Macs are. Works like a charm!
