one of my bugs is so old it doesnt have a fuel gauge - you turn a tap on the floorboards to reserve when you run out....
When I was growing up the neighbors had an older bug like that. They came up from Texas each summer and would get it running. One year they couldn't get it started and they finally push started it. It still didn't run very well. Finally they realized they had the battery hooked up backwards! Imaging doing that with today's autotive electronics!

Bugs: Germans simply know how to make a great car. When I bought a brand new 1964 red bug, I thought I'd gone to heaven. One of the most dependable vehicles Ive owned. Turn on the heater with a twist of a knob on the floor board (but waiting for that air cooled engine to heat up was the shivvers on cold mornings) :) 32 mpg, 40 HP, stick shift, and a buzzin' sound were great. And you could lean on, or sit on, the fenders and not worry about bending 'em.
And dont forget those dual exhaust pipes 8) And another claim to fame is that they FLOAT. 8)
edit add: and it only took 90 min. to exchange the engine, sigh.

Til my 72 super beetle timed off the smog list, I had a 2nd engine I popped in for the test...after passing the smog test, drove home and replaced it with the good running 1776 motor. Could do it in less than an hour with a floor jack ,2 2X4's and a piece of old carpet.

Can I get one with combined 8 track and MP3 player
Yes!! or at least I-Pod ready.

A number of creative smart types are taking vintage radios and wiring in inputs for aux equipment.

I wanted one for this truck but they were going for around 399 and I found this radio while looking.$

P.S. You gotta try harder to make fun o' me, or get in line and wait yer turn!!

My buddies at the shop say I've got a bullseye on me chest. (Im and easy target.)
