Upgrading Costs - 26X?

Post by captronr »

I'm looking at an 02 26X, that is STOCK. Can someone tell me about how much it will cost to add the following to the boat so I might make a more informed buying decision please?

Cost to run all lines aft (hardware and new lines)?
Cost of a Genola for an X?
Cost of a spinnaker for an X?
Adding shore power and interior 110V plugs?
Cost of a bimini?

I appreciate any guidance you can provide. If some of you have done this, I'd like to know ballpark what I'm looking at. The CFO is pretty strick (and pretty too).

THANKS. Ron

Hi Ron:

$450.00 for hardware and cordage to run your lines aft.

$350.00 for genoa.

$450.00 for cruising spinnaker.

$350.00 for bimini.

Can't answer the shore pwer question as I do not know if you are doing it or a yard.

Regards,

Art

Actually, the cost of shore power tends to be about $50-70; at least if you choose the cheap route.

Make a wire or buy ready made 30A locking male connector to female 110V spade connector: roughly fifty maybe a bit cheaper for do-it-yourself. I would recommend GFI protection either way just to be safe if the boat end falls in the water.

Basic orange 110V heavy-duty extension cord from Wal-Mart; it'd recommend fifty-foot just to have the extra length though twenty-five will be plenty 95% of the time. Power strip inside the cabin.

Is it as elegant as built-in? No, but it is vastly cheaper.

A proper shore power install

Cord
Deck connector
Master disconnect
three circuit distribution panel
two outlets

will cost about 850 USD properly installed.

An extension cord is fine for attended occasional use of one 110 VAC item, other use requires the full monty....

Re mains power where do you blokes install the plug, I put ours under the cockpit seat just below the hinge and seems to be easy to get but out of the way.

On an X the classic place is portside, on the vertical slope of the salon, just forward of the cockpit.

The main consideration is that the run of wire from the plug to the master disconnect should be as short as possible for safety reasons.

AWKIII,

When you say lines run aft costs $450, how many lines and what hardware are you including? Downhauls? Topping lift? I ran my 2 halyards aft, buying one new line (to replace the old jib halyard that was eaten by my prop), a 2-sheave deck organizer, 2 turning blocks, a mast base plate to attach the turning blocks to, and a Spinlock XAS double clutch, for $271.

I guess now that I add it all up, it was more expensive than I had thought. Another $60 or so to add a new main halyard (which is slightly too large for the clutch (and perhaps 2 XAS side cheeks for $26 due to breakage caused by locking in too large of a line) :D ) and it gets more and more expensive. 8)

EDIT: You might as well throw in either sail slugs and stopper (or stopper alternative to be found elsewhere on this board), or one of those boltrope fairlead things, if you are running lines aft.
