Dont worry about a dinghy, my older inflatable will work for you.
we will just blow it up and toss it on your bow before we leave.

This will explain what to do about mooring.
the harbour patrol will help if needed.
just be prepared for cold at night. (calif cold) 60 deg.
but as we get near the Island Ill call the harbour master
and set up our mooring just follow me in.
bring snacks and an apatite for fun....

Several reasons. Mostly it was destined to be a "penalty run" to test and log fuel KPG with a new prop. We aborted just north of Point Dume, 23 NM or so. Weighing into the abort decision was really poor fuel mileage up to that point and increased winds/sea-state due to a late start. To keep going meant running into the 25 kt wind a few points off the port bow, reducing speed, and a sunset arrive time if all went well.
Secondly, there is a killer seafood joint close to the Guest docks. Fish and Chips was clouding my reasoning.
All in all, I think it was the better decision.
I learned the 10" pitch prop wasn't for me, so all wasn't lost.
Thanks for asking.

Aya16, really sorry we missed you. We left Ridgecrest 8:00 pm Thursday to head to MDR. Didn't get your 10:30 message until returning home Sunday night. We were there! We launched from the Mast up lot around 7am Friday, and motored the 42nm to Channel Islands Harbor and Ventura Harbor. Great trip. Spent the night and sailed when the wind picked up, about halfway back to MDR.
We won't be down this coming weekend, but plan on being at MDR sometime Thursday morning (22nd) to do some small maintenance things before the trip on Friday. We'll launch then spend Thursday night at Burton Chase and be standing by Friday morning where ever and whatever time you think.
Do you have a place in Mast Up also? If so, what's your spot number? We're at the beginning of row 3, left side, the low 200's I think.
I picked up all five assorted flavors of Two Buck Chuck that the Palmdale Trader Joes had in stock. I looked around for awhile, then gave up and had to ask the clerk. They didn't throw in any Alka Seltzer. Was that an oversight on their part? The price kinda reminds me of the old $1.65 Boones Farm rotgut from my younger days. Strawberry Hill.
Good news about your older dingy. You are kind to let us borrow it for our first trip over. Using it will help to make up our minds, one way or the other, about getting our own.
Pokerrick, to bad you can't make the Catalina on the 23rd.
Anyone else up for a Cat trip March 23?

I was at the boat Fri. and its ready to go. Butttttt the weather was
kinda crappy. Fog and a little cold. I would still have gone though.
so If the weather is the same next week and you still want to go
lets do it.
again
I will be at the ramp at 6am fri. the 23rd. Ill have my older dinghy
inflated and you can put it on your bow. Before we get to
the mooring we toss the dinghy's over and tow them
on the side of our macs. We will know what side when we
see what side everyone else ties up their boats on the moorings
This way the dinghy isnt in the way when we Moore.
we will get a mooring on the "R" line if we can.
Thats the first mooring near the dinghy dock.
The two buck chuck sounds great. The dinghy costs one bottle
two buck chuck save the rest for other favors.
I post this in the thread instead of pm in case anyone else decides to go.

Well a short weekend to the Island and was very nice.
Calm seas all the way across and calm all the way back.
Bill and Sue are very nice people and we had a nice dinner on the beach Sat. Swapped lies and drank two buck chuck. We werent able to get the
mooring near the dinghy docks but the row to the dock wasnt to bad from where we were. Went for a sail Sat. and was very easy going. No heavy winds. But was fun.
This was the first time I have done the Island with very limited time.
we went across Fri as It was still dark when we started around 6 am
and motored all the way over. When we got there I needed a nap from working the night before. So the rest of the day was just kick back
pick up some supplies and rest. Sat we all went sailing and when we got back spread a feast out on the beach and ate till I was going to pop.
Went back to the boat watched a movie and fell asleep. I woke at 4.30am
to take the pup to shore and when I got back couldnt sleep anymore.
So we got the boat ready and shot across the channel at around 730
I was home by noon and relaxed the rest of the day till I had to go to work.
I really didnt want to do short trips like this because it trying to do to much at one time. But Ill rethink this because it was relaxing. So I might be doing some more short trips as April comes on.
