Hanging a hammock...

Post by Gazmn »

Hi All,

So what do you think is it possible to use a Hammock on a Mac?
At the very least I'd put in the Ballast, but could you be supported by the jib or furler and the main?

I'd take a guess and say that a hammock would be workable this way: attached the top (head and shoulder) to the mast, and bottom (feet) to either the rear stay, or front stay (no way to connect to the furler). And the top of the hammock could have 2 additional connections to the 'baby stays so no twisting would occur. Now, concerning that main sail, and boom ??? :|
Any one know of why this wouldnt work ? (if you're weight isnt 400#, and only one occupant  )

Some solutions....

From here we have the photograph, below (no other detail)...
(Oh, and have a look at the other photos at that site... this is a guy who clearly needs a bigger boat! I'm surprised that thing still floats! :D):

Bill at B4S had some thoughts.

And finally, Scott added one and gave us some nice detail photos.

Louis,

Your idea about the backstay has merit (for us X'ers)! Mine is now a split backstay, so I could easily tie something at the block-split, maybe hook the other end at the babystays bolt. Just one opinion ... foredeck requires special stuff & looks uncomfortable.
Might experiment with backstay next season. :)

I see that this salt put alot of thinking into his mods. They look well done. Seems like that boat is up to some serious traveling. Way to go, Dude.

Accused~!?
Accused~!?
That was strictly a (hopefully) helpful suggestion ... non-accusation.

I worked with a Frenchman (Bernard) for years ...
(Bernard never understood that difference, either)~! :|

Eric...

You wouldn't happen to have noticed how large the patch of reinforcement material was for each of the top reefs?

I am thinking I can do it with about a 15" shaped patch around 15" across on my BWY (fat/deep) main.

Thanks

Oh grow up Eric

The united states is in fine company with many other countries in the world still using legacy units, namely

Brunei, North Yemen, and South Yemen.

Don`t forget to wear your life jacket when using the hammock. They tend to tip eazy and you could end up in the water..

Not so fast, remember in the post where I was constructing the rube golberg hammock riser... I deep sixed it.

We now tie the front directly to the pulpit and the rear above the gooseneck. Wifee loves it.

As for wearing a life jacket she is not the most coordinated admiral and has yet to take a dunk.

Thanks guys,

For some reason I couldn't get this site for about a week. I almost thought my wife did it - so I'd pay more attention to her. Oh - it didn't work, BTB. But I was going through withdrawal symptoms.

Anyway I'm 210# on a good day. I hope I'll still be able to swing on the foredeck - just as soon as winter packs up in NY.

Frank, that guy is my idol for mod ideas. Was that a heater with a vent I spied on the port side past the galley...?
