What would this involve, as far as amount of difficulty, and longevity ?


Would it be hard to get and maintain coverage over the black ?

Would it be a consideration to get the black gelcoat off entirely and go back with a matching? white ?

Could it be done and look good close-up at any kind of reasonable price.?

What would be a reasonable price for having this done professionally ?

How about better than the faded black on your boat and mine ?

Would you do it (change the black to white) if it was free ?

Would you rather answer some other questions ?

I wonder if the black stripes on the blue hull M's should be changed to blue to make it go faster.

Other boats are copying the b+w trim scheme now so I vote for the stripes being RED or GREEN. All white truly makes it look like the proverbial plastic bleach bottle.

I prefer the unfaded black for sure. If it's faded that may push me to the white preference.

I agree with Catigale. The photo struck me at first as a whole different boat. I like it.

I've been thinking of getting some Dupli-Color paint and painting the stripe to match my dark blue Expedition. I figured I could get the faded gold pin stripes on the tape roll and border the paint. Yea, I know, it will require maintenance, repainting, stripes may not hold but dont they require maintenance anyway.

I just remember traveling as a child and seeing this 'huge' silver airstream custom painted to match the tow vehicle. Ever since then, 30 or so years ago, I have always liked the custom painted tow and 'towee'.

Black topsides is a nightmare in hot climes anyway, and always been faded and dull looking...
Problem is that trying to cover black with white won't be easy, and since the portlites are frameless so getting a good sharp paint edge between black and white will be a bear I think.
Didn't somebody in Europe do this already though? I thought there was a pix somewhere...

The "all white" Mac-X looks good, and amazing how much it changes the appearance. (thats the first one Ive ever seen) But I think the black stripes add something to a Mac-X, and enhances the appearance.
Even though the black will fade, it continues to accent the appearance of the Mac-X in my opinion.

I can't count the number of times people have complemented how nice my boat looks. I think the stripe adds a sportier look to the boat and it gives the "illusion" that its a fast boat.

That's the whole basis for my joking reply. Sailboaters and stink boaters beyond count, at least a hundred have come up to me on the road, on the dock or the cruised along side on the water and said "What a great looking boat! Is she really fast?" Without the stripes to flow the design, it's just another white boat.
Of course there's no such thing as an ugly sail boat, but some, like our Macs, are prettier than others.
I do wish the black wouldn't fade, but when necessary it can be painted.
