One of the keys for me in looking into the larger motor is to water ski.. I do ski with the 50 hp but with the boat lightly loaded.. And at that the ski's are not completely on top of the water.. Also when towing a tuber is anyone who remotely is larger than a small kid really pulls it down.. The E-tec is only about 100lbs heavier than my Merc.. Most everyone has commented about the motor but not any sailing trade off..
As anyone noted any definate change when they went to the larger motor? e.g. like more rake needed etc...?

Heavier motor vs mast rake
Mast rake is measured by the angle of the mast in relation to the surface of the water. Therefore the more the boat squats by the stern because of added weight, the angle of the mast between it and the water decreases, resulting in increased mast rake. My 98 X had two Group 24 batteries in the stock location giving a decided list to port and aft. It also had unmerciful weather helm. I replaced that set-up with two Group 27 batteries end to end, just behind the v-berth bulkhead and took out just about all of the mast rake. Sailing and trailering improved considerably.

70#'s is a minimal increase IMHO. it's hard for me to tell any perceivable difference. however, i should tell you that prior to the re-power i adjusted the mast rake forward to a point where, even today, it's more forward than stock.
i remember another member of this thread and Tohatsu 90 owner commenting that the extra weight made his X sail better.
