(you know the country that gave us cricket - and then forgot how to play)
Im a Born Brit, transplanted to the States at age 5 by a Macgregor 1019 (now in her slip in Long Beach CA)
The demise of the US is prematurely reported by many in the world imho. There is a can-do attitude here about solving problems that is in a class by itself based on my travels around the world.
Well Catigale, may I be the first to say THANK YOU As it is much more common for me to hear so many nasty comments from others.
Rockman . . . yes your's were taken as humor How else I mean look at the cars you guy's drive You are . . . . .funny folks But hey ! Gas is finally coming down in Chicago (Blue State)$2.87 this AM fill-em up gentalmen.
Catigale We knew, you were with Monty at El Alamein…Is there any way you can purge all the “New Californians” out!
Were up to our Heineken with law breaking illegals. “Can You Do” Anything? Any room in the Boat? We’ll pay the Fuel.
Friend has a 65ft power boat that he keeps in Ventura, Ca. He zipped out to Catilina at 22kts and back and then had a $1200 fill up! Of course...if you can affort a 65ft powerboat....he doesn't even blink about the $1200 in fuel, he said his gulf jet makes his boat look cheap!
I just did 4 days on Ontario cruise, a day at home, and 4 days on Cape Cod and burned 10.5 gallons of gas in the boat....most of which was on the 40 mile leg from Oak Orchard to Wilson under motor with no wind.
You used 10.4 gallons of gas in the boat, how much fuel/gas did you use towing the boat from ontario to cape cod??? Most sailors use more fuel driving to the Marina or towing than actual boat use??
John - my Eurovan gets 14 mph towing Catigale, so I did burn 20 gallons to Rochester each way, and another 15 to the Cape in the car.
That was my travel expense for 10 days vacation though, so I dont think that was a bad deal. No hotels and the only other charge was slip fee....
The Tuscorora YC charged me $10 for three nights....one night free reciprocal, one night free since there were 10 footers and no one could sail, and one night at 40 cents per foot....
If I trailered more I would think about that...but even putting a new engine into the Eurovan every few years is cheaper than buying a new vehicle
Other than being underpowered, the Eurovan - trailering combo works fantastically...very smooth...
My Theory on this is the height of the Eurovan breaks the air for the boat and it rides like one long hull....since I cant prove or disprove this theory Im running with it even if facts get in the way...
The Admiral will happily drive the combination on the Thruway (happier if I do the towns and villages)
