Burst? ... not at all!
Roger designed it to gradually expel that excess pressure below the transom waterline ...

Much to the annoyance of we 26X skippers! :x

You white hull guys are missing the opportunity to get to buff all the scuffs and duffs out of the blue hull. It is good exercise. :(

Hot Air

Post by Hinesy »

   I believe that the heat buildup within the vessel has a direct relationship to the sympathetic nervous system response of peripheral vasodilation associated with the fight or flight mechanism experienced by the sailors involved. Therefore as the discussion becomes more heated, so then does the heat transfer to the vessel with a resulting increase in ambient temperature.

basically, when Roger started using colored gel-coat on his M boat hulls, he blew it.

But when I am sitting there in the marina, I get lots of compliments about how pretty my boat is. In a marina full of white boats, Rhapsody stands out like a jewel.

Not again. No, not the blue/white thing.

Why would anyone say something negative about someone else's boat?

Good thing we're not sitting around, throwing back a few, eh?

I'd imagine that in the 100+ Florida heat with its 200% humidity it'd be hard to tell the difference below.

just too damn hot.

The new 2004 M boat I was tempted to buy (before I got the 2000 X ) was a blu hull, sometimes I regret not getting it... new, blue, Yammy 60, really new with plastic wrap on the cushions etc, lots of the options , and could have had it for 20,000 USD... no delivery charges or anything else ('cept taxes) ...
It had bright RED sails as it was ordered with .... bright RED genny, and main. Well, no one else in the marina would have had that, and I'm sure it would have drawn lots of comment...
There was a point here, but I forgot what it was ....

Do black streaks show more on white then blue? I would think. I sometimes whish I got mine in blue, sometimes not. Maybe I should have bought one of each. :D

direct comparison

Post by Andy26M »

To get serious for a moment:

The first time I saw a 26M it was at a dealer in Virginia. He had a blue M and several white X's. My reason for going to his marina was primarily to be able to directly compare the 26M to a 26X. The temperature was in the mid-90's and there was no wind, and the sun was reflecting very well off the smooth water in the marina.

The white-hulled 26X, sitting on the same side of the docks as the blue 26M, was VERY noticeably cooler inside (I'd guess 10-15 degrees F, but my skin isn't too well calibrated). I'm sure you could say something about the larger companionway of the 26X allowing more air circulation - but both boats were closed up tight before I got there and I know the interior of the 26X didn't cool down that much in the few minutes the hatch was open before I went inside.

My conclusion on the spot was that the blue hull absorbed a lot more heat, and that helped me decide to order my 26M with a white hull.
