Wondering what people have done to cover the cockpit openings on the X.
- I made some wood ones with screen vents - they only lasted a few seasons in the sun and rain.
- I have seen cloth and fiberglass ones - but I want some air circulation so I can keep spare gas tanks in them.
- I have looked at using StarBoard but it would cost me $100 for the materials.
Any ideas?
Locker Covers
Blue Water Yachts has them

I have these on my 26X. No where near airtight, so no worries about venting. I have the gray ones that match my mainsail and jib covers.

Vinyl
I made my own covers from a peice of $5 per yard black vinyl fabric. I fastened them on with snap, so there was plenty of air circulation and room for the tank hoses to exit. 'Besides looking neater, it keeps small things like quarts of oil, butane containers, funnels, filters, etc. from falling out if heeling more than 20 degrees in gusts.
Fuel locker covers
I made a pair out of 1/4" HDPE, (high density polyethelene) cut to about 1" oversize all around. Our tanks are the 9 gal. type which do not protude out of the lockers. I purchased the plastic froom tap plastics. I used a strip of 2" plastic ontop of a 1" plastic strip on the inside of the cover to form a lip to go over the bottom lip of the locker. I then used two key locks to secure the top of cover and to help keep the tanks from "walking away". Lastly I used a hole saw to drill some vent holes. The cost totaled about $30.

My first mate ..er, technically second, well, you know what I mean....
used several pieces of blue sunbrella to make cover flaps with rounded curves sewn on the edges and I attached snaps across the top. Looks great and keeps most of the rain, leaves and critters out but still plenty of ventilation.
