Best sleeping arrangment

Post by Mark Prouty »

My son and I will be taking an extended trip this summer and I am trying to decide on sleeping arrangements:

The options are:
:arrow: Sleep in the v-berth in the bow.
* Airier with hatch above.
* Mattress to short. Would need to modify for greater length.

:arrow: Sleep in the stern under the cockpit - maybe install opening ports.
* Wider mattress but seems a little clastrophobic.
* Handier to store equipment in bow.

Which location is preferable for sleeping on extended trip bow or stern?

I agree... the bow is better. We extended the port side of the v-berth...to make both sides equal. One of the dinette backrest cushions fits perfectly... you just need to create a support. We also changed the foam...to high density foam. Got a piece from www.foamsweetfoam.com

dinette sleeping

I think the best bed on the Mac is the dinette, provided you want to hassle with lowering the table. With a twin airmattress over the whimpy piecemeal cushions, it is the best spot in the house. Second best is the V-berth. Aft berth is for little kids and storage.

Our procedure is the same as Mark's except instead of placing the "wonder wood" under the backrest cushion we place an igloo drink cooler that just fits the space on the sole between the forward dinette seat and the port seat forward of the galley.

Rolf wrote:The coleman cooler that came with my 2002 x makes a perfect support for the forward dinette cushion to extend the port vee berth. Also we leave cooler there (perfect fit) where it is handy for easy access and relatively out of the way. We use the fiberglass cooler container under the aft dinette berth for clean clothes storage. Dirty clothes is relegated to forward port storage under the v berth next to the ballast tank plug.

I thought about using a cooler there. That sounds like a really good idea. :)
