Bunk cushions: washable?

Post by KaiSchuler »

Those of us outside of California are probably all winterizing our Macs these days.

I noticed that my bunk cushions have still a pretty nasty factory stink, and I wonder if they are washable? Anyone got experience with this subject? I am somewhat concerned with the plastic backside of these cushions.

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Happy winterizing,
Kai

Not sure .... new boat?
Do you mean a new plastic stink or a mildew stink?
The covers are washable but if it's a "new plastic" smell you probably are smelling the foam, not the fabric. I'd try one though just to see if/how much they shrink.
New foam is gonna take a good airing out and time.
Get them out of the boat where they can get planty of fresh air.
As for the foam itself careful, open cell foam will absorb water...

You don't want the plastic stink to be replaced by a mildew stink.
I completely redid our cushions w/foam and fabric.

If you can vent the boat, good ventelation helps with most types of stinks...

If you have the tan M cushions, my dealer had told me to use Dawn dishwashing soap when cleaning them.

We did wash ours for 97X, twice I believe. Just loaded in regular washer on gentle cycle. They do shrink a little.

I washed our X covers in our washing machine. Large front load type. No problem. Hung them to dry outside and sprayed the foam heavily with Lysol to freshen them up. It took a little work to get the covers back on, but once they were on and we bounced around on them a few times, they fit fine.

Hello:
We washed our covers repeatedly (even with some bleach) after our infamous "cat caper." We had to replace the foam though. Have machine washed the cockpit covers too. No problems.
