New Question 3 - Rudder handling

Post by Chumpy36 »

26s...

I went out for my first ride with just the motor yesterday and I found I did not like the action of the rudder. It appears that it is designed to sit on the top of the laz hatch and "slide" on the piece of plastic screwed to the underside? I didn't like the scraping and it got hung up on irregularities on the top. Do I have it rigged wrong? I'd rather it stop an inch above the laz hatch or so. Feels good there.

Thanks!

Looks like Idasailor used to make a riser. Does anyone have this and can give me measurements? I'd like to make my own because it doesn't seem to be for sale anymore.

I have the same issue. Just consider it a "performance enhancement" because every time you turn the tiller, the boat gets lighter by the amount of fiberglass you remove from the lazarette top! :D

I've considered a riser, but worried that the hinge would still articulate downward and scrape somewhere else. I've even considered placing a small castering wheel underneath the tiller, but that sounds silly.

Maybe a long thin piece of polyethylene plastic to the top of the laz to act as a "rash guard?"

It's truly annoying and I hate it. Maybe some sort of "car" bolted to the tiller with something slippery to slide it on?
