Hi ALl,
First time poster on the forum, amazing amount of info on here, greatly appreciate it all. Been thinking about a Magregor for years now and finally getting serious about buying one. Looking to maybe purchase this boat, however I have some concerns around the swim deck that was added, haven't really seen any other boats with anything like this, seems like a good add on but a little concerned with how its mounted to the hull. The boat is at a boat dealer and they don't really have any information on it besides pictures. What do you guys think about this boat and the swim deck?

It is really great made platform. Shure it will be very good in every day use.
what I don't know is the weight added at the stern.
You always can take it away an sell it...
Cool mood with the heater! Have fun in the winter!

By the way: I just watched the pics on the bigger scrin... I see a "problem" with the platform mod: As the rudders all time stay UNDER water, you cannot do planning high speeds. In high speed planning the rudders MUST be completely out of the water... otherwise the will crack...

I agree. Having the rudders out horizontal like that underway will definitely bend the rudder brackets at best and possibly damage the rudders as well when encountering any kind of lateral load (e.g. a heavy following swell or a powered turn at plaining speed). Even sitting at dock/anchor you'll get marine growth on the rudders. I would guess that with the swim platform on, the owner keeps rudders always down when underway. So this boat has transitioned to a 'sailing only' MacGregor 26M with a minimum of 3 1/2 foot draft with the rudders down. It's still trailerable of course and one thing I like about the platform is that appears to be easily removable before launching. The weight may be a bit of an issue, but it looks like it's all aluminum, so maybe around 150 to 200 lbs. This will effect stability and performance, but probably not excessively so. It's an impressive mod, and you may be able to economically modify it to fold vertically to make room for the rudders. There are some examples of this in the Mods section.
Overall it seems to be a pretty clean boat. the swim platform wouldn't be a reason not to buy it in my mind.

Ok, the swim platform is nice eye candy. I don't know how practical it is, both from a weight standpoint, from a safety standpoint (the properller is right there), and from a "busyness" standpoint (I suspect anyone over 10 will be bumping into cables. But it looks nice.
An alternative is to have a portable hooked swim ladder (4 step) and use it on either the left or right (port or starboard) and combine it with a floating mattress of 6 feet or less. Less "cool" looking - but easier to use and more room for people to lounge about and chill out.
