Furler/Luff fitment question

Post by Toolbox91 »

Can anyone confirm this? I'm adding a roller furler kit to my 26X. Up till now only used hank on sails. I got the kit from BWY but this doesn't appear to be made right. The luff is supposed to fit down in the furler correct? I'm thinking this just wasn't cut out all the way. Was going to grab a file and file out the extra plastic so it would fit but want to make sure I'm not making an expensive mistake.right past the opening the cavity feels to be the right shape and size. Can I get some confirmation from anyone before I proceed? Thank you!

Yes the luff goes into the furler.
Click the resources on this website, scroll to the bottom and there is a cdi manual.

You might consider getting a replacement.
I read that CDI was purchased, had some issues, but is getting back on track.
You might have gotten a furler that did not pass inspection, but was shipped because they had nothing else in stock.
If you want to fix it, then yes that track goes down into the furler, you have to pull the pin, set it all the way down, drill and re-insert the pin so that the track will not move in our out.
Once your sail is on, you will have tension keeping the track in the furler, so it does not really hurt if the track sits on the pin, but it could cause some entertainment while the sail is being put on.

Unfortunately the manual is not overly clear about the track going inside the furler.

Hmm, that's not exactly how I remember it, when I changed mine. The furler luff on mine just sits on TOP of the pin, the pin doesn't hold it in place at all, it's just gravity that holds it in place. The furler luff only goes in as deep as the pin itself.

I guess none of us really take this apart that often. My memory = aligning the hole, but was years ago.
