Mystery Black Board, what’s this thing?

Post by trswem »

Howdy folks. Any ideas what this black panel may be below? It’s screwed into the fiberglass with sheet metal screws, and there’s nothing beneath it, nothing it covering. At first I thought it might be the “table”, but that’s stowed away elsewhere. The PO had no idea what it was, said it was there when he bought it. I’m stumped.

That's in a 26D? I'm stumped too.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

It is the 26D. One of a couple mysteries on this boat, but I really can't even begin to understand this one.

OK, by way of clarification:

1. Is there an opening behind this panel?
2. Does the table you located look like this panel i.e. same thickness, materials, design?

I'm thinking it is the result of some abandoned project or cover-up of damage, but you mention no cut-out or damage.

It probably covers up the henway.

I'd remove it and see.

There is nothing behind it, just clean fiberglass and four holes that the screws go through.

No the materials on this board are different than anything else on the boat, though this panel does look commercially purchased and not a DIY job. There are eight screw holes in the panel itself that were puttied and painted over. My best guess at this point is that it was meant to be a means of attaching things to, and maybe never got around to completing. I agree with your abandoned project theory.

I'm new to this, but this is feeling like a "blinker fluid" scenario... :D
