Self tacking jib. Anyone have any experience with this modification?
Self tacking jib. Anyone have any experience with this modification?
I am looking to add a self tacking jib to my 26x. There are a few system for sale and a few modifications that do notcost anything.

Erik Hardtle's self tacking staysail was ingenious.

Thanks Russ. Nice to know the thread made an impression.
Sea trials with that rig seem to indicate that the trim line is not necessary as long as the twist control line (blue one) is properly adjusted.
I considered various approaches, but like my solution because it does not place any hardware on the deck that could be a trip hazard. Once the rig is put away, there's no trace it was ever there. I took advantage of the fortuitous placement of the stanchions for attachment of the twist control. If the stanchions on the X don't sit in the right place, perhaps some unobtrusive attachment point could be allowed at either side.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.
